Job Description

Canyon Building & Design is seeking a Junior Estimator to join our team. This position is ideal for someone with a foundation in commercial construction who wants to develop their estimating skills and grow into a larger role within our Preconstruction team. The Junior Estimator will work closely with our Estimators and Preconstruction Managers to assist with bids, subcontractor solicitation, quantity takeoffs, pricing, scope review, and proposal preparation. This position will gain hands-on experience throughout the estimating process while gradually taking on greater responsibility. Responsibilities Assist with preparing estimates and proposals for commercial construction projects. Review plans, specifications, addenda, and other bid documents. Perform quantity takeoffs and assist with material and labor pricing. Solicit bids from subcontractors and suppliers. Follow up with subcontractors to obtain complete and competitive bids. Review subcontractor proposals for scope, exclusions, and pricing. Assist with bid leveling and comparison of subcontractor proposals. Identify scope gaps, discrepancies, and potential cost issues. Assist in developing subcontractor scopes of work. Maintain bid logs and track bid due dates and addenda. Assist with preparing budgets and detailed estimates. Research material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing. Assist with value engineering and cost-saving opportunities. Participate in pre-bid meetings and project site walks as needed. Maintain organized estimating files and documentation. Work with Project Managers and Superintendents during project turnover. Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers. Take on increasing estimating responsibilities as experience and knowledge develop. Qualifications 1-3 years of commercial construction or estimating experience preferred. Construction management, engineering, or related education is a plus. Ability to read and understand construction plans and specifications. Basic understanding of commercial construction means, methods, and sequencing. Experience with quantity takeoffs and construction pricing preferred. Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills. Experience with Procore and/or estimating software is a plus. Strong mathematical and analytical skills. Excellent attention to detail. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines. Self-motivated and willing to learn.
