  • $90,000 a year 3 days ago Benefits 401(k) Paid time off 401(k) matching Qualifications Paving Pricing Bluebeam Attention to detail Calendar management Full Job Description About the Position ZLC Corporation is seeking a Junior Estimator to join our estimating and preconstruction team.
This is a hands-on development position for someone with approximately 1-3 years of construction estimating or related field experience who wants to grow into an independent estimator. ZLC performs demolition, excavation and grading, underground utilities, site concrete, asphalt/paving, and related site work throughout the Bay Area. This position will support the entire bidding process
  • from reviewing plans and performing quantity takeoffs to gathering vendor pricing, preparing proposals, tracking bid deadlines, and helping make sure opportunities move through our estimating process efficiently. What You'll Do
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, addenda, and bid documents.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for demolition, excavation and grading, underground utilities, site concrete, asphalt, and paving.
  • Develop material, labor, equipment, trucking, and disposal quantities.
  • Assist with project budgets, estimate preparation, and bid pricing.
  • Request, organize, and follow up on subcontractor and vendor pricing.
  • Identify scope gaps, conflicts, and unclear information and help prepare bidding questions or RFIs.
  • Review subcontractor and supplier quotes for scope coverage.
  • Help prepare proposals, scope sheets, exclusions, clarifications, and alternates.
  • Maintain organized bid folders, drawings, specifications, and pricing information.
  • Track incoming bid opportunities, bid milestones, and proposal due dates.
  • Maintain the bid calendar / CRM and help ensure estimates are completed and submitted on time.
  • Coordinate proposal submissions and confirm delivery to clients.
  • Track post-bid follow-up activities so opportunities do not fall through the cracks.
  • Attend project job walks and pre-bid meetings when required.
  • Spend regular time on active ZLC jobsites to learn production rates, construction methods, and field operations.
  • Assist with project handoff from estimating to the operations / project management team.
  • Maintain historical pricing and production information for future estimates. What We're Looking For
  • 1-3 years of construction estimating or related field experience.
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans.
  • Basic understanding of construction quantities and measurements.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
  • Comfortable working with Excel and construction estimating software.
  • Bluebeam experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate with vendors, subcontractors, project managers, and field personnel.
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines at the same time.
  • Willingness to ask questions and learn construction means and methods through both office and field exposure.
  • Able to take ownership of assigned estimates and follow through on commitments.
