Job Description
Estimator C-Store / Gas Station / Retail ConstructionPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our pre-construction team focusing on convenience stores, gas stations and retail construction projects. The Estimator will produce accurate, competitive cost estimates and bid packages that support successful project wins while preserving profit margins. This role requires strong technical plan-reading skills, knowledge of retail construction practices, and the ability to collaborate with project managers, subcontractors and clients throughout the proposal process.
Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare detailed quantity takeoffs, cost estimates and bid proposals for c-store, gas station and retail construction projects.
Review architectural, structural, mechanical and civil drawings to determine scope of work and identify constructability issues.
Solicit, evaluate and coordinate subcontractor and supplier quotes; compile and analyze bids for comparison.
Develop and maintain unit price, labor and material cost databases and historical cost records.
Perform value engineering and constructability reviews to optimize project costs and schedules.
Prepare bid clarifications, exclusions and assumptions; produce clear, professional estimate summaries and bid packages.
Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits and client presentations to gather information and validate site conditions.
Coordinate with project managers and design teams to update budgets, identify risks and refine scopes during pre-construction.
Use estimating software and spreadsheets to model costs, contingencies and pricing scenarios.
Ensure estimates comply with contract requirements, local code/regulatory constraints and company estimating standards.
Qualifications5+ years of commercial construction estimating experience, with demonstrated background in convenience store, gas station or retail construction preferred.
Proficient with takeoff and estimating tools such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, On-Screen Takeoff or similar, and advanced Excel skills.
Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and geotechnical reports.
Proven track record preparing winning bids, managing subcontractor procurement and maintaining competitive pricing.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to prepare clear proposals and present findings to clients and internal stakeholders.
Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple bids to tight deadlines.
Familiarity with local building codes, permitting requirements and utility coordination for fuel station projects is a plus.
Existing relationships with subcontractors and suppliers in the retail/ c-store market are highly desirable.
