Job Description
Estimator / Project Manager - Heavy Civil We are a Heavy Civil General Contractor seeking an experienced Estimator / Project Manager to join our team. This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for a candidate with proven heavy civil construction experience who understands both field operations and the administrative requirements necessary to successfully estimate and manage projects from bid through completion. Minimum Experience Requirements Candidates must have: 10+ years of heavy civil construction experience , or 5+ years of heavy civil construction experience with a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field Strong field experience and a practical understanding of construction means, methods, production, equipment, and manpower Required Heavy Civil Experience Candidates must have proven experience with: Underground utilities Water, sewer, and storm drainage Mass grading and excavation Structural concrete and flatwork Site development and related heavy civil construction Applicants must be able to read and understand civil, grading, utility, and structural plans and specifications and understand how the work is actually constructed in the field. Estimating Responsibilities Perform detailed hand quantity take-offs Perform electronic take-offs using industry-standard take-off software Prepare labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor pricing Review plans, specifications, addenda, and contract documents Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations Prepare estimates, bid proposals, and supporting documentation Identify scope gaps, risks, exclusions, and potential change conditions Participate in pre-bid reviews and project turnover Candidates must be capable of performing accurate take-offs independently and should not rely solely on electronic or automated estimating software. Project Management Responsibilities Manage projects from award through final completion Develop and maintain project schedules Coordinate field operations, subcontractors, suppliers, equipment, and materials Manage material acquisition and procurement Prepare, submit, and track RFIs Prepare, submit, and track submittals Manage change orders and supporting documentation Maintain project files, correspondence, and required office paperwork Track project costs, quantities, production, and progress Review invoices, purchase orders, and subcontractor documentation Coordinate directly with field supervision Communicate professionally with owners, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and other project stakeholders Computer and Administrative Requirements Candidates must be proficient in: Microsoft Office 365 Excel Word Outlook Microsoft Project PDF and electronic plan review CAD and/or electronic take-off software Cloud-based file storage and document-sharing systems Electronic file organization, sharing, permissions, and document control Candidates must be comfortable managing large volumes of electronic project documentation, including drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, estimates, correspondence, purchase orders, and change documentation. Qualifications Proven heavy civil estimating and project management experience Strong field knowledge and understanding of construction operations Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications Ability to independently perform accurate quantity take-offs Strong organizational and communication skills Strong understanding of project cost control and documentation Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities Ability to work independently and make sound construction decisions Valid driver's license Experience Verification Strong professional references are highly recommended.
