In person - Atlanta & surrounding area Position Overview The Project Estimator prepares accurate, competitive cost estimates for heavy civil and commercial construction projects from initial review through bid submission. This role analyzes plans, specifications, quantities, labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor pricing, and project risks while coordinating with operations and business development teams. The ideal candidate has 3-5 years of relevant estimating experience, strong knowledge of heavy civil construction, and experience with AGTEK or similar earthwork takeoff software. Duties & Responsibilities
    Bid Review:
    Review plans, specifications, addenda, geotechnical reports, and bid requirements to establish project scope and identify estimating needs.
      Quantity Takeoffs:
      Prepare detailed and accurate quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, concrete, paving, structures, and other heavy civil scopes.
        AGTEK Estimating:
        Use AGTEK or similar takeoff software to calculate earthwork quantities, analyze cut-and-fill conditions, and support grading estimates.
          Cost Estimating:
          Develop labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and indirect-cost estimates using historical data, vendor pricing, and current market conditions.
            Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination:
            Solicit, evaluate, and level supplier and subcontractor quotations to confirm scope coverage and competitive pricing.
              Constructability and Risk Review:
              Identify scope gaps, site constraints, schedule impacts, production risks, and value-engineering opportunities before bid submission.
                Bid Preparation:
                Assemble bid worksheets, pricing summaries, clarifications, exclusions, alternates, and proposal documentation in accordance with solicitation requirements.
                  Team Collaboration:
                  Coordinate with senior estimators, project management, operations, and business development to validate means and methods, production assumptions, and project strategy.
                    Schedule and Logistics Analysis:
                    Evaluate project phasing, site access, mobilization, haul routes, material handling, and equipment requirements that affect cost and duration.
                      Estimate Documentation:
                      Maintain organized takeoff files, pricing records, subcontractor quotes, assumptions, and bid backup for review and future reference.
                        Bid Analysis:
                        Participate in estimate reviews, bid-day activities, and post-bid analysis to improve estimating accuracy and competitiveness.
                          Project Handoff:
                          Support a thorough transition of awarded estimates to project teams by communicating scope, pricing assumptions, risks, and subcontractor commitments.
                            Market Knowledge:
                            Maintain awareness of heavy civil and commercial construction costs, labor rates, equipment productivity, material trends, and local subcontractor capabilities.                             • Three to five years of estimating experience in heavy civil, site development, utility, infrastructure, or commercial construction.
                            • Demonstrated ability to prepare complete, accurate, and competitive estimates from conceptual budgeting through final bid submission.
                            • Experience using AGTEK for earthwork and grading takeoffs is strongly preferred; proficiency with comparable digital takeoff software may be considered.
                            • Strong knowledge of heavy civil construction means and methods, including earthwork, underground utilities, concrete, paving, structures, and site development.
                            • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, addenda, geotechnical reports, utility plans, civil details, and contract requirements.
                            • Proficiency in performing detailed quantity takeoffs and developing labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and indirect-cost estimates.
                            • Experience soliciting, evaluating, and leveling vendor and subcontractor quotations to ensure complete scope coverage.
                            • Working knowledge of production rates, crew compositions, equipment capabilities, construction sequencing, and project logistics.
                            • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify scope gaps, cost risks, constructability concerns, and value-engineering opportunities.
                            • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating or bid-management software; experience with HCSS, Bluebeam, or similar platforms is preferred.
                            • Excellent organization, attention to detail, time management, and ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
                            • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with senior estimators, operations teams, project managers, suppliers, and subcontractors.
                            • Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
                            • Valid driver's license with a clean MVR and the ability to pass pre-employment screening.
