Job Description

At Maui Plumbing Inc., we don't just price projects, we define the standard for how work is planned, executed, and delivered. Our Estimators play a critical role in the success of our projects by ensuring accurate, well-structured, and complete project pricing across service, construction, remodel, and retrofit work. We are seeking a detail-oriented, analytical Estimator who not only builds estimates, but also reviews, validates, and strengthens incoming estimates to ensure alignment with company standards, pricing accuracy, and project success. Position Summary The Estimator is a seasoned role within the Estimating Department responsible for the preparation, validation, and continuous improvement of project estimates. In addition to developing estimates, this role is responsible for: Reviewing incoming estimates (internal and external) Ensuring scope completeness, pricing accuracy, and alignment with MPI standards Identifying gaps, risks, and inconsistencies before proposals are finalized. The Estimator will lead the preparation, calculation, quantity surveying, qualification, and packaging of project proposals under general direction, with final review by leadership. Scope of Work Estimate Development Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine full scope of work Perform complete quantity take-offs and develop detailed cost estimates Build labor, material, and equipment pricing based on current market conditions Prepare conceptual and detailed estimates using historical and real-time data Estimate Review & Validation Review incoming estimates from internal teams, project managers, and field input Validate scope coverage, production assumptions, labor rates, and material pricing Identify scope gaps, overlaps, and risk exposure Ensure consistency across estimates in methodology, structure, and margin strategy Provide feedback and corrections to improve estimate quality across the organization Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination Generate Requests for Proposals (RFPs) Analyze vendor and subcontractor bids for completeness, accuracy, and feasibility Compare pricing, scope coverage, and delivery timelines Maintain current pricing data through supplier relationships and market research Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement Maintain organized files of all estimate backup documentation Analyze historical job cost data, productivity reports, and purchase orders Develop benchmarks and guidelines for future estimating accuracy Support development of standardized estimating practices across departments Proposal Preparation Prepare final proposal deliverables including: Accurate pricing Scope qualifications Inclusions and exclusions Support leadership in reviewing design options and cost-driven decisions Requirements 4-year engineering degree or equivalent technical training and/or experience 2-5 years of estimating, controls, or engineering experience in construction or mechanical/plumbing systems Strong understanding of estimating techniques, cost control, and construction methods Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and computerized cost systems Ability to independently estimate small to mid-sized projects with minimal supervision Core Values in Action At MPI, how you approach your work matters as much as the result: Integrity
