Steel Fabrication Estimator Don's Welding & Processing Location:
Loves Park, IL Job Type:

  • 65,000 per year, based on experience About the Position Don's Welding & Processing is seeking an experienced Steel Fabrication Estimator to join our team in Loves Park, IL.
This is a hands-on estimating position focused on custom steel and stainless steel fabrication, weldments, and fabricated assemblies . The estimator will review customer drawings and RFQs, determine material and labor requirements, develop accurate quotes, and work closely with our fabrication, purchasing, and production teams. We are looking for someone who understands how fabricated steel parts are actually built —cutting, fitting, welding, grinding, finishing, and handling—and can turn customer drawings into accurate and competitive estimates. Key Responsibilities Review customer drawings, specifications, and RFQs Read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and weldment details Prepare accurate material and labor estimates for fabricated parts and welded assemblies Determine required fabrication processes, including cutting, forming, fitting, welding, grinding, and finishing Evaluate jobs based on shop capabilities and production requirements Obtain or calculate material, purchased component, and outside processing costs Estimate fabrication and welding labor hours Prepare competitive quotes while supporting company margin goals Work closely with purchasing, production, and other team members Enter and manage fabrication work orders Assist with customer questions and quote follow-up Manage multiple RFQs while maintaining accurate and timely quote turnaround Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing methods and reduce costs Qualifications Experience in steel fabrication, welding, manufacturing, estimating, or a related field Strong ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and blueprints Understanding of welded assemblies and common fabrication processes Knowledge of carbon steel and/or stainless steel materials Ability to estimate material requirements and fabrication labor Strong math, problem-solving, and organizational skills Comfortable working with computers and business software Ability to manage multiple quotes and priorities in a fast-paced job-shop environment Strong communication skills and ability to work with customers and production personnel Preferred Experience 3+ years of fabrication estimating or related fabrication experience Experience in a custom fabrication or job-shop environment Steel and/or stainless steel fabrication experience Welding and fabrication shop experience AutoCAD, Fusion 360, or similar CAD experience a plus Previous fabrication estimating, project management, production, or sales experience Candidates with strong hands-on fabrication knowledge who are ready to move into estimating are encouraged to apply. We work with commercial and industrial customers on a variety of fabricated steel and stainless steel components and welded assemblies. Compensation & Benefits Salary:
$60,000
