Job Description

Senior Estimator / Lead Estimator - Structural Steel & Miscellaneous Metals Baltimore, Maryland $130,000-$165,000 Base Salary + Bonus/Incentive Compensation Growth Solutions Team is recruiting an experienced Senior Estimator / Lead Estimator for an established Baltimore-area commercial construction company specializing in structural steel and miscellaneous metals. This opportunity is designed for an accomplished construction estimator who brings strong hands-on estimating experience and is ready to take on broader leadership responsibilities within an established estimating department. The successful candidate will continue to estimate significant commercial construction projects while also helping the Vice President of Estimating manage department priorities, strengthen estimating practices, mentor developing estimators, and review complex bids. What You'll Do Prepare detailed estimates for commercial structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and fabrication projects. Review drawings, specifications, addenda, scopes of work, and bid documents. Perform quantity takeoffs and develop labor, material, fabrication, erection, subcontractor, and equipment pricing. Solicit, analyze, and incorporate vendor and subcontractor quotations. Identify scope gaps, exclusions, constructability issues, project risks, and value-engineering opportunities. Independently develop estimates for complex commercial projects. Review estimates prepared by other estimators for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate risk considerations. Mentor and coach less experienced estimators, helping them strengthen technical knowledge, estimating judgment, blueprint interpretation, pricing strategy, and bid preparation. Assist the Vice President of Estimating with workload planning, bid assignments, estimate reviews, department organization, and estimating standards. Participate in final bid reviews and provide recommendations regarding pricing, project risk, competitiveness, and bid strategy. Coordinate with project management, fabrication, field operations, vendors, and leadership throughout the estimating and project-transition process. Help identify and implement opportunities to improve estimating processes, tools, accuracy, consistency, and department performance. What We're Looking For 5+ years of commercial heavy construction estimating experience, with significant additional experience preferred for senior-level consideration. Demonstrated experience estimating structural steel, miscellaneous metals, steel fabrication, or commercial projects with substantial structural steel scope. Experience gained with a structural steel fabricator, major specialty contractor, or commercial general contractor is highly desirable. Strong understanding of structural and architectural drawings, specifications, construction sequencing, fabrication requirements, and erection considerations. Demonstrated ability to independently prepare and review complex estimates. Experience mentoring, training, or coaching junior or mid-level estimators. The ability and desire to provide leadership within an estimating department while remaining actively involved in estimating projects. Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with estimating software, Microsoft Excel, and related construction technology. Experience collaborating with project managers, fabrication operations, field personnel, suppliers, subcontractors, and senior leadership. This Opportunity May Be Particularly Attractive If You Are A Senior Estimator with a major commercial general contractor who wants to apply your estimating expertise within a structural steel and fabrication environment. An experienced structural steel estimator ready for greater influence and leadership responsibility. A Lead Estimator who enjoys mentoring and developing other estimators. An Estimating Manager who wants to remain involved in hands-on estimating while helping lead a department. An accomplished estimator who wants a path toward greater estimating leadership responsibility without having to wait for the next opportunity within a very large organization. About the Opportunity This is more than an individual estimating position. Baltimore Fabrication is looking for someone who can bring strong estimating judgment to significant commercial projects while helping strengthen the capabilities of the overall estimating team. The successful candidate will work closely with the Vice President of Estimating and have an opportunity to influence estimating processes, develop less experienced team members, and contribute to the continued growth of the operation. This is a direct-hire position with the construction company, not a contract, temporary, or consulting assignment. Growth Solutions Team is a Maryland-based business consulting and executive search firm specializing in helping organizations identify and attract top talent. Our client has exclusively retained us to conduct this search, and we are the sole recruiting organization representing the firm for this opportunity. www.gsteammail.com #StructuralSteel #SteelFabrication #ConstructionEstimating #SeniorEstimator #LeadEstimator #CommercialConstruction #MiscellaneousMetals #Preconstruction #ConstructionCareers #
