Full Job Description Position Overview:
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial mechanical projects, which include HVAC, sheetmetal, plumbing and piping systems. This role involves analyzing project specifications, collaborating with various departments, and ensuring all estimates align with company standards and client requirements. Key Responsibility Areas (KRAs): 1.
Estimating and Cost Analysis:
Review project plans, specifications, and all other project requirements, including by not limited to insurance, bonds, schedules, scope of work, contracts, sales & use tax, etc., to develop comprehensive cost estimates. Conduct site visits to gather necessary information for accurate estimations. Attend pre-bid, post-bid, and project related meetings with the sales team or project manager. Prepare detailed cost breakdowns for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services, all in compliance with relevant codes. Utilize estimation software (i.e. Autodesk, ESTmep, and Revit) and other tools to ensure precision and efficiency in the estimation process. 2.
Collaboration and Communication:
Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on project scope and budget. Communicate effectively with clients to clarify project requirements and address any concerns. Collaborate with suppliers/vendors and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing and ensure cost-effective solutions. 3.
Documentation and Reporting:
Assist the sales department in preparing and submitting detailed bid proposals and ensure all documentation is complete and accurate. Maintain organized records of all estimations, bids, and related communications. Provide regular updates to VP of Construction and/or Construction Manager on the status of ongoing estimates and bids. 4.
Market Analysis and Continuous Improvement:
Stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and pricing fluctuations. Continuously seek opportunities to improve estimation processes and enhance cost accuracy. Participate in training and professional development activities to maintain industry knowledge and skills.
Additional Requirements:
Must be able to come to work promptly and regularly. Must be able to take direction and work well with others. Must be able to work under the stress of deadlines. Safe work practices and consistent PPE compliance. Must possess a valid driver's license Must maintain an insurable driving record Other duties as directed by manager.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field; or equivalent combined of education and industry experience. 3-5 years of experience of estimating commercial construction projects - preferred; Experience in Mechanical contracting highly preferred. Strong understanding of mechanical systems, construction methods, labor productivity, materials and equipment costs. Knowledge of design-build estimating highly preferred. Experience managing estimates for projects up to $5 million - preferred. Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Autodesk, ESTmep, Revit, or similar) and Microsoft Office applications. Ability to interpret and analyze construction drawings, specification and bid documents. Strong analytical and mathematical skills. Excellent communication, interpersonal abilities, organizational and time management skills. Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
