POSITION SUMMARY
AAI is looking for an experienced Project Estimator to join our team and help support our continued growth. The right person will bring proven estimating experience in asbestos abatement, hazardous material remediation, demolition, or a related construction field and be ready to manage bids from start to finish. This position is responsible for reviewing plans and specifications, performing site visits, identifying project risks, and developing accurate, competitive estimates. We are looking for someone who takes pride in getting the details right, and can build estimates that set both our customers and field teams up for success.
CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Build estimates that win and work: Prepare complete, accurate estimates for labor, materials, equipment, permits, and subcontractors while balancing competitiveness, risk, and healthy project margins.
- Own the scope: Review drawings, specifications, environmental reports, and hazardous materials surveys. Ask the right questions, identify gaps, and clearly document assumptions, exclusions, and clarifications.
- Get into the field: Visit project sites to understand existing conditions, access, sequencing, logistics, safety considerations, and the real-world factors that can make or break an estimate.
- Deliver strong proposals on time: Develop professional bid packages that are easy for customers and internal teams to understand, and consistently meet bid deadlines.
- Protect compliance and reduce surprises: Build scopes that reflect applicable EPA/NESHAP, OSHA, and state and local requirements. Identify regulatory concerns and project risks before work begins.
- Work as one team: Partner with project managers, field supervisors, customers, vendors, and subcontractors to confirm scope, improve handoffs, and set projects up for success.
- Know the market: Maintain strong vendor and subcontractor relationships, pursue competitive pricing, and identify value-engineering options or additional services that benefit the customer and the company.
- Learn from every bid: Track bid results, compare estimated costs with actual performance, and use what you learn to improve cost models, tools, and estimating processes.
- Use technology well: Make effective use of estimating software, Microsoft Office, and project management tools to work efficiently and keep information organized.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Three or more years of estimating experience in asbestos abatement, hazardous material remediation, demolition, or a closely related construction field.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare detailed takeoffs, cost estimates, and proposals from drawings, specifications, and environmental reports.
- Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local environmental and safety requirements.
- Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain scope, pricing, risks, and recommendations clearly.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
- Asbestos Supervisor or Inspector certification is preferred.
