Job Description
Our Michigan-based commercial construction company offers architecture and design, design-build, construction management, general contracting, mechanical contracting, and self-performed trade services, allowing clients to streamline projects from initial planning through final completion. We are looking for a Structural Steel Detailer to prepare detailed fabrication and erection drawings for steel fabricators and field erection crews in the Midland, MI area. This role develops plans, drawings, models, and supporting documentation for structural steel members including columns, beams, braces, trusses, stairs, handrails, joists, metal decking, and other miscellaneous steel components. Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field. Preferred. Structural steel detailing experience (3 years with a degree or 4 years without degree). Required Proficiency with SDS2 detailing software. Required Strong understanding of AISC and AWS standards and requirements. Required Proficiency with Microsoft Office products- Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Key Responsibilities:
Produce detailed structural steel fabrication and erection drawings. Develop shop drawings from engineering plans, sketches, and architectural documents. Prepare and submit field drawings for review and approval. Generate Requests for Information (RFIs) as needed to resolve design discrepancies or missing information. Produce final shop drawings with accurate dimensions, weld requirements, connections, plates, angles, and miscellaneous steel components. Create material lists, bills of materials, and part drawings for fabrication purposes. Prepare anchor bolt plans and construction layout drawings. Develop electronic 3D models of structural steel systems using SDS2 software. Produce fabrication reports and supporting documentation for production teams. Prepare erection drawings and material lists for field construction personnel. Coordinate project requirements with architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, and owners. Participate in design-build projects and communicate directly with clients and contractors as necessary. Perform field measurements and site visits to verify dimensions and existing conditions.
