Service Estimator Horwitz - 3.5 New Hope, MN Job Details Full-time $70,000 - $85,000 a year 14 hours ago Qualifications Customer communication Driver's License Full Job Description The Service Estimator plays a key role in supporting Horwitz's preconstruction efforts by preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for plumbing, piping, and HVAC systems across commercial and industrial construction projects. This role collaborates closely with project teams, trade partners, vendors, and clients to ensure scope clarity, cost accuracy, and successful project planning.
Key Responsibilities:
These responsibilities generally describe the nature of the position and may not be all inclusive: Analyze project drawings, specifications, and design documents to develop accurate material and labor take-offs. Prepare competitive cost estimates for mechanical systems, including plumbing, piping, and HVAC. Develop project budgets, bid breakouts, and clear, technically accurate proposals. Solicit and evaluate pricing from vendors, suppliers, and trade partners for equipment, materials, and subcontracted work. Coordinate with clients during preconstruction to clarify project scopes, review estimates, and discuss upcoming opportunities. Attend jobsite walkthroughs and customer meetings to verify conditions and ensure scope alignment. Collaborate with Project Managers to understand constructability and logistical requirements for accurate pricing. Participate in estimate reviews to validate assumptions, costs, and overall estimate accuracy. Support historical cost tracking and project benchmarking to improve future estimating. Skills and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and piping. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents. Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills. Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple active bids and deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and Bluebeam. Experience with QuoteSoft or other estimating software preferred. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Education and Experience:
Associate's or bachelor's degree in Estimating, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience. Minimum 2 years of estimating or construction experience in a mechanical contracting environment preferred. Valid driver's license required. Occasional local travel for jobsite visits and project walkthroughs
