full-time Estimator (Turf - Sports Complex) Our client is a well-established and growing specialty construction company serving the golf and sports industries, with a focus on turf construction for golf courses, football fields, baseball fields, and soccer facilities. The company has approximately 170 employees, including a collaborative office team of roughly 40 professionals, and is expanding its estimating group to support continued growth and future succession planning. This is an onsite opportunity for a Kansas City-based candidate working from the company's Lee's Summit, Missouri office. About the Role The position includes approximately 25%-30% travel for pre-bid and preconstruction meetings, generally involving day trips with very few overnight stays. The Estimator will support the preparation of competitive bids for a variety of golf and sports construction projects, working closely with estimators, project managers, superintendents, and company leadership. Responsibilities Review project plans, specifications, drawings, and bid packages to determine scope and requirements. Conduct detailed material and quantity takeoffs for civil, earthwork, grading, turf, and related construction activities. Research project specifications, site conditions, materials, and subcontractor requirements. Develop accurate project pricing and prepare estimates for submission. Enter takeoff information, pricing, and estimate details into Sage and related estimating systems. Prepare approximately four bids per week, with an annual volume of approximately 100 bids. Support projects generally ranging from approximately $1.3 million to $12 million. Coordinate with internal teams and attend pre-bid and preconstruction meetings as needed. Travel approximately 25%-30% to project sites and meetings across multiple states, typically through day trips. Collaborate with senior estimators, project managers, superintendents, and leadership to ensure bids are complete, accurate, and competitive. Participate in weekly meetings with superintendents and maintain clear communication throughout the estimating process. Develop knowledge of both the company's golf and sports construction divisions, with opportunities to specialize or advance into more senior estimating responsibilities. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have a civil engineering, civil construction, earthwork, or closely related background, with strong knowledge of grading, soils, sitework, and construction estimating. The company is open to considering recent college graduates with a relevant degree, as well as candidates without a degree who have at least three years of directly relevant estimating experience. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred; recent graduates will be considered. Candidates without a degree should have a minimum of three years of construction estimating experience. Required Skills Experience reviewing construction bid packages, plans, specifications, and scope documents. Demonstrated ability to perform takeoffs, research project requirements, develop pricing, and prepare estimates. Civil construction, earthwork, grading, site development, or related experience strongly preferred. Strong understanding of soil conditions, grading, and earthwork quantities; landscape-only experience may not provide the required technical depth. Experience with Sage and/or Procore is preferred. Strong attention to detail, organization, analytical ability, and follow-through. Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Willingness to travel approximately 25%-30%, primarily for day trips and preconstruction meetings. Must be based in the Kansas City area and able to work onsite. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with estimators, project managers, superintendents, and leadership. Bilingual candidates are a plus.
