Responsibilities Review construction drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine utility requirements and scope of work. Utilize estimating software such as Construct connect Construction estimating tools, and Bluebeam to develop detailed cost estimates for utilities including water, gas, electrical, sewer, and stormwater systems. Interpret technical drawings and blueprints to accurately estimate material quantities and labor needs from blueprints. Manage project estimates by preparing comprehensive budgets that include material costs, labor, equipment, and subcontractor quotes. Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing while maintaining quality standards. Collaborate with project management teams to develop project schedules, cost control measures, and risk assessments. Prepare detailed spreadsheets and reports to communicate estimates clearly to clients and internal stakeholders. Monitor ongoing project costs versus estimates to ensure budget adherence; implement adjustments as needed for cost control. Review contracts, manage change orders, and support project management in contract negotiations related to utilities. Leverage construction management software like HeavyBid and Xactimate for accurate cost tracking and reporting. Qualifications Proven experience managing projects as a construction estimator within the utilities or heavy civil construction industry. Strong proficiency with estimating software such as Construct connect, Bluebeam, and other construction estimating tools. Extensive knowledge of blueprint reading, interpreting technical drawings, and reviewing construction plans for utility projects. Demonstrated ability in cost management, material cost estimating, pricing strategies, and estimating material requirements from blueprints. Excellent negotiation skills with suppliers, subcontractors, and clients to achieve favorable terms. Solid understanding of construction site operations, safety standards, contracts, and project management principles. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel spreadsheets for detailed analysis and reporting. Construction industry experience focused on commercial projects involving utility infrastructure is highly preferred. Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with clients, contractors, vendors, and internal teams.
