Construction Estimator - Home Repair & Remodeling Mr. Mike's Home Repair is a Christian-owned and operated home repair and remodeling company serving Jacksonville and the surrounding areas. We believe in doing business with integrity, honesty, a strong work ethic, and a good attitude. We are growing and looking for an experienced Construction Estimator who understands the trades and is comfortable using technology every day. This is not an entry-level estimating position , and it is not a role for someone whose experience is limited to estimating from plans behind a desk. Our estimator will visit properties, evaluate the work that needs to be completed, document conditions thoroughly, take clear and useful photographs, determine labor and material requirements, and build accurate estimates for projects across multiple trades. Our projects can range from multi-day repair and punch-list projects to full kitchen, bathroom, exterior, and remodeling projects lasting four weeks or longer. What You'll Be Doing You will be responsible for: Meeting customers and evaluating residential repair and remodeling projects Accurately identifying the work required and potential problems that could affect the project Taking detailed, useful photographs of every job Writing thorough notes that another team member can understand without having been at the property Developing accurate material lists and material costs Estimating labor requirements across multiple trades Building estimates for everything from small repairs to large remodels Using several mobile apps on your own smartphone while in the field Uploading photographs, measurements, notes, and project information Using company websites, estimating platforms, and other software on a company computer Learning and consistently following our estimating process Communicating clearly with office staff, technicians, project managers, and customers Revising estimates when scopes change or additional information is discovered Helping ensure jobs are estimated correctly before they are sold and scheduled Technology Is a Major Part of This Job We do not do pen-and-paper estimates. You must be comfortable operating digitally throughout the entire estimating process. You will regularly be expected to use multiple apps on your phone, upload pictures and documents, navigate websites and company software, organize information, and follow a defined digital workflow. You do not need to already know every program we use, but you must be able and willing to learn new technology quickly and use it correctly. If you avoid technology, struggle with smartphone apps, dislike entering detailed notes, or prefer writing estimates on paper, this position is not a good fit.
Required Experience Applicants should have:
5+ years of hands-on construction, remodeling, maintenance, or skilled-trade experience Strong working knowledge of multiple residential trades The ability to recognize proper repair methods and determine realistic scopes of work Experience estimating labor and material requirements Strong attention to detail Excellent written notes and documentation skills The ability to take clear, organized photographs that properly document a project Confidence using smartphone apps, websites, email, cloud-based systems, and computer software The ability to learn and follow a structured estimating process Strong communication and customer-service skills A valid driver's license and dependable transportation Experience in several of the following areas is strongly preferred: Carpentry, drywall, painting, flooring, doors and windows, siding, roofing, decks, fencing, kitchens, bathrooms, tile, cabinetry, basic plumbing, basic electrical, and general residential repairs.
Please Do Not Apply If:
You do not have significant construction or trade experience You have never had to determine how a repair or remodeling project should actually be completed You are uncomfortable using multiple apps and computer programs You struggle to write detailed notes You do not consistently take good photographs You are looking for a pen-and-paper estimating position You are unwilling to learn and follow a defined estimating process We need someone who can look at a project, understand what it will actually take to complete it correctly, document it thoroughly, and turn that information into an accurate estimate. What We're Looking For The right person is experienced enough in the trades to recognize what they are looking at, organized enough to document it correctly, and technologically capable enough to move quickly between the field and office. We can teach you our process and our software. We are not looking to teach someone construction from the beginning. If you have strong trade knowledge, take pride in being accurate and thorough, and are comfortable embracing technology, we would like to hear from you.
