40066 Key Responsibilities & Details A growing heavy civil contractor is seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Estimator to independently manage the bidding process for complex public and private infrastructure projects. This is not an entry-level estimating position. We are looking for someone who understands construction means and methods, can think through a project from mobilization through completion, and can develop accurate, competitive estimates based on real-world field conditions. Projects may include bridge and culvert work, dam rehabilitation, marine and waterfront construction, structural concrete, heavy excavation, site development, and public infrastructure. Responsibilities Review plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and bid documents Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and cost analysis Develop complete estimates for labor, equipment, materials, trucking, subcontractors, and self-performed work Evaluate construction sequencing, production assumptions, logistics, and means and methods Develop bid strategies and identify project risks and opportunities Solicit, review, and level subcontractor and supplier quotations Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and scope reviews Prepare bid proposals and supporting documentation Coordinate with project management and operations during pursuit and preconstruction Support project turnover and operational planning following award Help improve estimating systems, historical cost information, and production tracking Qualifications 5+ years of heavy civil construction estimating experience Experience independently preparing competitive bids Strong background in multiple heavy civil disciplines such as: Heavy excavation and earthwork Bridge or culvert construction Dam or water infrastructure Structural concrete Marine or waterfront construction DOT or other public infrastructure Ability to read and interpret civil, structural, and geotechnical plans Strong understanding of construction sequencing, equipment production, labor requirements, and field operations Ability to analyze project risk and determine appropriate estimating strategies Strong organizational and problem-solving skills Comfortable working in an environment where responsibilities may overlap between estimating, project management, and operations Preferred Qualifications HCSS HeavyBid or similar estimating software DOT/public works estimating experience Experience with temporary works, dewatering, cofferdams, or complex site logistics OSHA 30 Engineering or Construction Management background The successful candidate will be practical, self-sufficient, detail-oriented, and capable of understanding both the numbers and the operational realities behind an estimate. compensation, performance-based incentive opportunity, benefits, and long-term growth potential are available.
