Project Designer & Estimator Atlantic Installation Company is a family-owned industrial equipment and mechanical services company serving warehouses, distribution centers, manufacturing facilities, automotive service facilities, and other commercial and industrial customers. We are seeking a Project Designer & Estimator to turn customer requirements and field conditions into practical equipment layouts, accurate bills of materials, and well-developed project proposals. This position is ideal for someone with experience in industrial drafting, CAD design, material handling, construction estimating, or a related field. We are also interested in candidates who are mechanically inclined, enjoy solving practical problems, and want to develop their technical skills in a growing company. Responsibilities Prepare equipment layouts, plan views, elevations, details, and conceptual designs using AutoCAD, Configura CET, and other design software. Develop layouts for pallet rack, shelving, mezzanines, work platforms, conveyors, industrial curtains, automotive equipment, and related systems. Review customer drawings, specifications, installation instructions, and existing site conditions. Perform material takeoffs and prepare accurate bills of materials. Assist with field surveys, measurements, photographs, and documentation. Research equipment options and obtain pricing, lead times, and technical information from manufacturers and suppliers. Assist Project Managers with cost estimates, proposals, submittals, revisions, and project documentation. Identify potential design, access, clearance, and installation conflicts. Maintain organized drawings, notes, vendor quotations, and estimating information. Revise drawings and estimates as project requirements change. Coordinate with Project Managers, installation personnel, vendors, customers, and outside consultants. Follow company design standards, procedures, and management direction. Basic Qualifications Associate degree, bachelor's degree, technical certificate, or equivalent relevant experience in drafting, CAD design, construction technology, estimating, or a related field. Working knowledge of AutoCAD or comparable drafting software. Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and equipment installation instructions. Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to document project information and take accurate, thorough notes. Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines. Ability to pass applicable pre-employment screening requirements. Preferred Qualifications Experience designing or estimating material-handling, industrial equipment, mechanical, or construction projects. Experience with AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Configura CET, or similar design software. Experience preparing material takeoffs, bills of materials, or project cost estimates. Familiarity with pallet rack, shelving, mezzanines, conveyors, automotive equipment, or other industrial systems. Practical mechanical aptitude and an interest in understanding how equipment is manufactured, assembled, and installed. Experience conducting field surveys and developing drawings from existing conditions. Familiarity with vendor quotations, freight, labor estimates, and proposal preparation. Hands-on experience building, assembling, repairing, or modifying equipment. Schedule Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Occasional overtime, weekend work, and travel to customer facilities may be required. This position combines office-based design and estimating work with occasional visits to commercial and industrial facilities. Training and Development The selected candidate will receive product-specific and company-process training during an introductory 90-day period. Training will include field visits and time with our installation personnel to develop a practical understanding of how the equipment we design and estimate is delivered, assembled, installed, and serviced.
