Cowboys Big Iron Services, LLC is looking for an ambitious, detail-oriented Associate Construction Estimator to join our team in Edgewood, NM. This entry-level role is tailored for someone eager to build a long-term career in preconstruction and cost estimating for heavy civil, earthwork, and utility projects. Working under the mentorship of project leadership, you will assist in plan reviews, perform initial digital quantity take-offs, request vendor quotes, and assemble clean bid packages. Key Responsibilities:
Assist senior estimating staff with reviewing blueprints, project specifications, and addenda. Perform basic digital quantity take-offs for earthwork, utility materials, asphalt, and concrete. Solicit material and equipment quotes from vendors and reach out to specialty trade subcontractors. Organize, log, and maintain bid documents, subcontractor quotes, and plan updates in company folders. Input take-off data and unit costs into estimating spreadsheets and bid templates. Coordinate with project managers and field superintendents to gain insight into construction methods and production rates. Help prepare formal bid submittal forms, scope clarification sheets, and client proposal packages. Assist with post-bid documentation and handoff files for awarded projects moving into operations.
Qualifications:
Associate degree, Bachelor's degree (Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related discipline), or equivalent hands-on field/internship experience. Foundational ability or coursework in reading and interpreting civil blueprints and construction specifications. Strong comfort with numbers, basic geometry, and spreadsheet-based calculations. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, with emphasis on building basic formulas in Excel. Excellent organizational habits, clear written communication, and strong attention to detail. Eagerness to learn estimating workflows, heavy civil methods, and industry-standard take-off software.
Preferred Experience:
Internship or 0-2 years of exposure to construction environments, field labor, or preconstruction office support. Prior exposure to take-off tools such as Bluebeam Revu, PlanSwift, Agtek, or HeavyBid. General familiarity with civil sitework, dirt moving, underground utilities, or paving. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to the Edgewood office.
