This position will estimate high-volume industrial manufacturing work and general job-shop powder coating and finishing projects. The estimator will work directly with management, office personnel, the Production Manager, and the Technical and Coatings Supervisor. The successful candidate must be comfortable managing large quantities of drawings, revisions, part numbers, pricing records, purchase orders, and production data. Primary Responsibilities
- Receive and organize RFQs, drawings, specifications, ZIP files, purchase orders, quantities, and related correspondence.
- Review drawings for dimensions, material type, part number, suffix, revision, quantity, coating notes, and special requirements.
- Calculate paintable surface area and prepare accurate coating estimates for individual parts and high-volume production releases.
- Estimate media blasting, pretreatment, masking, plugging, powder coating, QC, stamping, labeling, packaging, pickup, delivery, and other required services.
- Determine whether parts are best processed through the batch system or conveyor line and account for setup, color-change, handling, and packaging requirements.
- Identify hanging points, restricted coating areas, threaded holes, cure limitations, coating thickness, finish, gloss, texture, and powder-manufacturer requirements.
- Request missing information and resolve duplicate drawings, conflicting revisions, unclear specifications, or incomplete purchase orders before release.
- Apply approved price schedules, minimum lot charges, recurring part pricing, and required company margins.
- Prepare clear quotations with scope, assumptions, exclusions, lead-time notes, and project-specific requirements.
- Submit exceptions, new pricing, unusual processes, and low-margin work to management for approval before quotation or production release.
- Maintain pricing history by part number, revision, process, and quantity, and compare new RFQs with previously completed parts for consistency.
- Enter accurate part, revision, process, quantity, pricing, and due-date information into ERP and job-tracking systems.
- Create complete production job packages with drawings, purchase orders, coating specifications, technical data, masking notes, packaging instructions, and approved pricing.
- Coordinate with office personnel so quotations, purchase orders, production records, completion status, and billing information agree, then provide production with a complete job package.
- Compare estimated labor, material, powder, processing, packaging, and freight costs with actual results.
- Identify underpriced or unprofitable work and recommend updates to estimating formulas and pricing standards. Industrial Manufacturing and Job Shop Estimating
- Estimate recurring high-volume industrial parts as well as one-time and small-quantity job-shop powder coating and finishing projects.
- Maintain accurate records across multiple manufacturers, part numbers, drawing revisions, quantities, finishes, and purchase orders.
- Verify part number, drawing revision, color, masking, stamping, coating, and packaging requirements before releasing each order.
- Track recurring part pricing and confirm purchase-order pricing matches approved quotations and current costing information.
- Review actual production results to determine the most efficient and profitable processing method for future quotations. Required Qualifications
- At least three years of manufacturing estimating, production planning, job costing, or closely related experience.
- Experience working in a high-volume production environment with recurring part numbers and multiple active orders.
- Demonstrated ability to read manufacturing drawings, dimensions, notes, revisions, and specifications.
- Experience preparing job-cost estimates and quotations using labor, material, overhead, setup, and margin information.
- Hands-on ERP, MRP, manufacturing job-management, or production-tracking experience.
- Strong spreadsheet, computer, file-management, and accurate data-entry skills.
- Ability to manage drawing revisions, purchase orders, price lists, and project-specific requirements without losing detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication with office personnel and production employees.
- Reliable attendance, organization, follow-through, and ability to manage deadlines with limited supervision. Preferred Qualifications
- Powder coating, industrial finishing, paint-line, sheet-metal fabrication, machine-shop, or OEM manufacturing experience.
- Experience calculating paintable surface area from two-dimensional and three-dimensional manufacturing drawings.
- Knowledge of batch coating, conveyor lines, blasting, pretreatment, masking, powder coverage, cure requirements, and packaging.
- Experience maintaining pricing schedules, minimum charges, volume pricing, and repeat-part cost history.
- Experience with Jobber or similar estimating and job-management software. Performance Expectations
- Produce accurate and timely quotes without releasing incomplete or unclear work to production.
- Protect company margins by identifying all processing, setup, labor, powder, packaging, and freight requirements.
- Reduce the amount of routine takeoff, pricing research, and production-data entry handled by ownership.
- Use completed-job results to improve future estimating accuracy and profitability.
