Full Job Description Commercial Construction Estimator Job Summary:
The Construction Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates for construction projects. This role involves analyzing project plans, specifications, and requirements to determine the total cost of materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services. The Estimator works closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure competitive, thorough, and timely bids.
Key Responsibilities:
Review and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and project scope. Prepare detailed cost estimates for all phases of construction, including site work, building, finishes, and MEP systems. Solicit and analyze subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure accuracy and competitiveness. Develop quantity take-offs using plans and digital estimating tools. Identify potential cost savings, value engineering opportunities, and risk factors. Collaborate with project managers and clients to clarify project requirements and expectations. Maintain an updated database of unit costs, material prices, and subcontractor lists. Assist in the preparation of bid proposals, budgets, and change order pricing. Participate in project handoff meetings to ensure accurate transfer of estimate data to project teams. Stay informed about industry trends, market pricing, and construction methods.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (preferred). 3+ years of estimating experience in commercial, residential, or industrial construction. Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building codes. Proficiency with estimating software Excellent analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents. Strong communication and negotiation skills. High attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
Physical Requirements:
Office-based with occasional site visits. Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods and review plans/drawings. May require use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during site visits.
