Job Description

Position Summary The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for various steel fabrication, machining and assembly projects. This position requires a strong ability to review drawings, specifications, and other bid documents to determine material, labor, and production costs, ensuring bids are submitted on time and aligned with company capabilities and profitability goals. Key Responsibilities Review and analyze project drawings, specifications, and bid documents. Perform detailed quantity take-offs for structural steel, plate, and miscellaneous metals. Develop accurate cost estimates including materials, labor, equipment, subcontractors, and outside services (e.g., machining, fabricating, heat treat). Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes. Prepare and submit formal bid proposals and scope clarifications. Collaborate with project managers and shop personnel to ensure feasibility and accuracy. Identify potential risks, cost-saving opportunities, and value engineering options. Maintain and file documentation for all estimates. Complete post-bid reviews and pricing updates as needed for awarded projects. Stay current on market pricing, steel trends, and industry standards.
Qualifications Education & Experience:
Associate or bachelor's degree in Engineering, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience). 3+ years of estimating experience in light to heavy machining, steel fabrication, structural steel, or related industry.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong understanding of machining and welding practices and procedures, drawings and specifications. Proficiency in Windows and ERP/MRP software Solid math and analytical skills. Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and contract documents. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Effective communication and negotiation skills. Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously. Working Conditions Office-based with occasional visits to shop floor or job sites. May require extended hours during bid deadlines. Physical Requirements Ability to sit for extended periods and work on a computer. Occasional standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 lbs. Preferred Qualifications (Optional) Experience with AISC standards and AWS welding symbols. Familiarity with ERP systems used in machining environments. Prior experience in a machine shop or fabrication shop environment. Glunt Industries offers a very competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package. $70,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
