  • DOT and municipal projects Job Description Our client is seeking a Heavy Civil Estimator with 5+ years of heavy civil construction estimating experience to join our team.
We're looking for an estimator who understands how heavy civil projects are built, not simply how to put together a bid. This position reports to the Chief Estimator and will work closely with Operations, Project Management and company leadership on active pursuits.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Review plans, specifications, addenda and contract documents Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop complete estimates Price labor, materials, equipment, trucking and subcontractor work Solicit, analyze and negotiate subcontractor and supplier pricing Evaluate project scope, risks, constructability and means/methods Develop competitive bids, bid schedules and proposal documents Attend pre-bid meetings and project/site visits Coordinate with Operations and Project Management on pricing and constructability Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options Meet bid deadlines and maintain accurate estimating documentation
WHAT YOU BRING
5+ years of heavy civil construction estimating experience Strong ability to read and interpret civil drawings, plans and specifications Experience with quantity takeoffs and detailed cost estimating Working knowledge of heavy civil construction means and methods Experience pricing self-perform work, subcontractors, materials and equipment Strong understanding of construction costs and productivity Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines Strong communication, analytical and organizational skills Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Ability and willingness to travel to project sites and attend required site visits and pre-bid meetings.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Highway, roadway, bridge, utility, sitework, paving, marine, rail/transit or environmental construction Public works and DOT projects NJ, NY or PA construction markets HCSS HeavyBid, AGTEK, Bluebeam, B2W, Procore or similar Prevailing wage and public bidding requirements Value engineering and alternative construction methods Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related field is a plus, but equivalent heavy civil experience will be considered. The Successful Applicant A successful Estimator should have: Experience with cost estimation in the civil construction industry. Strong analytical and mathematical skills to assess project requirements and budgets. Familiarity with construction processes, materials, and industry standards. Proficiency in relevant software tools such as estimating software and Microsoft Excel. Excellent communication and organizational skills to work effectively with teams and stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a busy environment. What's on Offer Competitive salary range of $90,000-$160,000.
