Job Description

Job Title:
Electrical EstimatorJob Location:
Pittsburgh, PASalary (DOE):$85k-$125k
Requirements:
5+ years of Electrical Estimating experience. Experience with Accubid and/or Bluebeam preferred.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Electrical Estimator to produce accurate, competitive estimates for electrical construction projects across commercial, healthcare, and higher education sectors. The ideal candidate will manage takeoffs, analyze drawings and specifications, coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers, and develop comprehensive cost proposals that support successful bids and profitable project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare complete and accurate quantity takeoffs and detailed electrical cost estimates for projects ranging from small renovations to large building systems work.

Use estimating software (Accubid and McCormick) and takeoff tools (Bluebeam) to produce estimates, maintain databases, and generate bid documents.

Review drawings, specifications, and scopes of work to identify design intent, project constraints, and potential risks; request clarifications and issue RFIs as needed.

Solicit, evaluate, and incorporate subcontractor and supplier quotes; manage bid timelines and communications to ensure on-time submission.

Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, and owners to develop value-engineering options, constructability reviews, and alternative solutions to meet budget and schedule goals.

Develop and maintain detailed cost breakdowns, assumptions, labor and material unit rates, escalation factors, and contingency allowances.

Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and walkthroughs to verify site conditions and build accurate pricing assumptions.

Prepare bid summaries, proposal narratives, and supporting documentation for internal review and client presentation.

Maintain historical estimate archives, update cost databases, and track bid performance to continuously improve estimating accuracy and competitiveness.

Ensure compliance with industry standards, client-specific requirements, and applicable codes for healthcare and higher education facilities.

Support post-bid activities including subcontract award recommendations, contract review, and transition of estimate information to project teams.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent technical experience.5+ years of electrical estimating experience in commercial construction; experience with healthcare and higher education projects strongly preferred.

Proficiency with Accubid and/or McCormick estimating software and Bluebeam for digital takeoffs; strong computer skills including MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and single-line diagrams.

Experience preparing detailed labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost breakdowns, as well as applying productivity and escalation factors.

Strong communication and negotiation skills for working with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal project teams.

Excellent attention to detail, analytical ability, and time-management skills to meet bid deadlines.

Knowledge of construction means and methods, local codes, and healthcare/higher-education-specific requirements (e.g., infection control protocols, phased occupancy).
Preferred:
Estimator certification or related professional credentials; experience with bidding in public procurement and prevailing wage environments; prior field experience or journeyman-level electrical background.
