Job Description

Job Title:
Electrical Estimator Job Description This role focuses on preparing accurate and detailed electrical construction cost estimates for large capital projects. You will review blueprints and project documents, perform quantity takeoffs, and develop unit cost pricing using industry-standard estimating tools. Working closely with engineers and project teams, you will help define project scope, support preconstruction planning, and contribute to efficient project delivery within a growing, global organization. Responsibilities Review blueprints, specifications, and other project documents and prepare detailed, comprehensive cost estimates for electrical construction work. Perform accurate quantity takeoffs based on available design documents and convert them into clear, itemized cost breakdowns. Obtain accurate and current pricing information from databases, contractors, suppliers, and other sources to support estimate development. Input estimate takeoff information for the electrical discipline and develop unit cost pricing using estimating software and tools. Collaborate with engineers and project team members to develop a clear understanding of project scope during estimate preparation. Build and maintain strong working relationships with members of architectural and engineering firms and other project stakeholders. Assist senior staff by identifying ways to make projects more efficient and suggesting improvements to estimating processes. Continuously seek ways to improve the accuracy, consistency, and efficiency of estimating tasks and workflows. Maintain project documents such as drawings and specifications in an organized manner, following established standards and procedures. Maintain project files on the file server in accordance with company standards to ensure easy access and version control. Maintain and update a data library of costs, ensuring that historical and current cost information remains accurate and reliable. Prepare cost reconciliations between two or more estimates and clearly explain the key cost drivers behind any variances. Support preconstruction and bidding activities by providing timely and well-documented estimates and cost analyses. Utilize construction management and estimating software tools to support project controls, scheduling, and procurement as needed. Essential Skills Minimum of 3 years of experience as an estimator in manufacturing and/or mechanical, electrical, or process piping contracting environments. Approximately 7 years of relevant experience in construction estimating or a closely related field. Bachelor's degree in Construction, Quantity Surveying, or a related field. Hands-on experience in electrical estimation within construction and preconstruction settings. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and construction documents accurately. Experience with electrical construction, bidding processes, and construction management practices. Working knowledge of electronic takeoff tools, including CAD Measure or similar systems. Working knowledge of a commercially available construction cost estimating system. Proficiency with estimating software such as Acubid, NECA, or comparable electrical estimating platforms. Ability to understand and utilize Information Technology tools in daily work, including Internet and Intranet resources. Proficiency with Microsoft Windows operating systems and the Microsoft Office Suite. Experience using Adobe Acrobat for document review and markup. Familiarity with Microsoft Project for scheduling and coordination support. Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform detailed quantity takeoffs and cost reconciliations. Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with engineers, contractors, and project team members. Strong organizational skills for maintaining project documents, files, and cost libraries in a structured and accessible manner. Additional Skills & Qualifications Professional designations such as RICS, CCE, CCM, AIA, PE, ASPE, AACEI, CVS, AVS, RA, or other relevant appraisal or professional licensure are preferred. Experience working on large, capital construction projects, particularly in highly technical or industrial environments. Exposure to electrical construction projects in semiconductor, manufacturing, or similar advanced facilities is advantageous. Experience supporting preconstruction activities, including bidding, budgeting, and value engineering. Demonstrated ability to work within a global organization or on multi-location project teams. Proven ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with contractors, consultants, and other external partners. Interest in continuous improvement and willingness to adopt new tools, technologies, and best practices in estimating. Ability to adapt to changing project demands and support multiple projects or assignments as needed. Work Environment You will join a growing estimating team that supports a large, long-term capital construction program, providing exposure to many leading contractors and consultants in the Portland area and the broader region. The role operates within a global organization that delivers projects across multiple sectors, offering significant opportunities for internal mobility and career growth across various locations and project types. The environment is highly collaborative and project-focused, with close coordination among estimators, engineers, project controls, scheduling, and procurement teams. You will work with modern estimating and project management technologies, including electronic takeoff tools, construction cost estimating systems, and standard office software such as Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project. The organization also supports third-party quality assurance and oversight of other contractors' contracts and project controls on behalf of project owners, providing broad exposure to complex project delivery structures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Beaverton, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $67.00/hr.
