Job Type:
Full-time, in person
Benefits:
Health insurance, 401(k) matching, and paid time off About the Role We are seeking an experienced Senior Steel Detailer / Estimator with strong, hands-on Tekla Structures expertise to join our steel fabrication team. This is an opportunity for a skilled professional who understands structural steel detailing from the model through fabrication and erection, and who can also contribute to accurate, competitive project estimating. You will play an important role in translating project drawings and specifications into precise 3D models, fabrication-ready shop drawings, material take-offs, and reliable cost estimates. Working closely with management and our fabrication team, you will help ensure projects are detailed accurately, quoted competitively, and set up for successful execution. Tekla Structures experience is essential for this position. We are looking for someone who can apply their existing detailing expertise and contribute independently, rather than someone seeking to learn the software on the job. Key Responsibilities Steel Detailing & 3D Modeling Develop accurate 3D structural steel models using Tekla Structures, based on engineering drawings, project specifications, and design requirements. Produce detailed shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and other documentation required for manufacturing and erection. Review drawings and models for accuracy, completeness, and constructability, identifying discrepancies and resolving technical issues proactively. Coordinate with project managers, fabricators, and other stakeholders to ensure detailing supports efficient fabrication and installation. Use AutoCAD as needed to support drafting and detailing requirements. Estimating & Material Take-Offs Prepare accurate material take-offs and cost estimates using project drawings, specifications, and available model information. Evaluate material requirements and fabrication considerations to support reliable project pricing. Work with management and the project team to clarify scope, identify potential issues, and support informed bidding decisions. Help ensure estimates reflect the work involved while supporting competitive, profitable project delivery. Required Qualifications Demonstrated, hands-on experience using Tekla Structures for steel detailing and 3D modeling. Ability to independently develop accurate models and produce fabrication-ready steel shop drawings using Tekla Structures. Experience interpreting structural and architectural drawings, specifications, and construction details. Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication processes and the relationship between detailing, estimating, and shop production. Experience preparing material take-offs and cost estimates for steel fabrication projects. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage competing deadlines. Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
Please note:
Applicants without practical Tekla Structures steel detailing experience will not be considered for this position. Preferred Qualifications Experience working directly with a structural steel fabricator or steel erector. Experience with structural and miscellaneous metals projects. Familiarity with fabrication planning, erection requirements, and constructability considerations. Experience improving detailing or estimating workflows and identifying opportunities to improve accuracy and efficiency. What We Offer Competitive hourly compensation of $38.00-$42.00, based on experience and demonstrated capabilities. Health insurance. 401(k) matching. Paid time off. The opportunity to take ownership of important detailing and estimating work and make a meaningful contribution to project outcomes. If you bring strong Tekla Structures skills, practical steel fabrication knowledge, and the ability to turn project requirements into accurate detailing and estimates, we would welcome your application.
