Job Description

Estimator - Commercial DoorsPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Commercial Doors Estimator to join our team. The role focuses on preparing accurate, competitive bids for commercial door and frame packages (Division 8) across public, institutional, and commercial construction projects. The estimator will analyze project documents, develop scope and pricing for doors & frames, coordinate with suppliers and contractors, and help drive profitable wins while maintaining compliance with project specifications and industry standards.

Key ResponsibilitiesReview architectural, structural, and MEP drawings, specifications, and Division 8 requirements to develop complete door and frame scopes of work.

Prepare detailed takeoffs and cost estimates for commercial doors, frames, hardware, and associated services using industry-standard practices.

Utilize estimating software (Comsense, E/pws, or similar) to generate proposals, quantity lists, and pricing worksheets.

Coordinate with suppliers, manufacturers, and subcontractors to obtain accurate quotes, lead times, and product substitutions.

Collaborate with project managers, sales, and operations to clarify scope, value-engineer solutions, and ensure constructability.

Identify and quantify alternates, exclusions, allowances, and contingency items in bids.

Maintain and update historical cost data, pricing databases, and assemblies specific to doors & frames.

Respond to RFPs, RFIs, and bid clarifications in a timely manner and assist during the bid review and negotiation process.

Ensure compliance with DHI standards and industry best practices for doors, frames, and hardware.

Support post-award processes by handing off accurate scope, submittals, and budget information to project teams.

Qualifications2+ years of estimating experience in commercial doors & frames (Division 8) projects.

Proven experience with Comsense, DFH, or equivalent estimating and takeoff software preferred.

Strong knowledge of Division 8 (Doors & Frames) specifications.

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.

Excellent analytical, organizational, and time-management skills with attention to detail.

Strong communication and negotiation skills; able to coordinate with suppliers, architects, contractors, and internal teams.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and familiarity with cost databases and assemblies.

Associate degree in Construction Management, Estimating, Architecture, or equivalent experience preferred; relevant certifications (e.g., DHI, Estimating Certificate) a plus.
