LT Plumbing LLC

Chief Estimator

Job Description

About LT Plumbing LT Plumbing is a privately held commercial plumbing contractor based in Palmetto, Florida, serving projects throughout Manatee and Sarasota Counties. Since 2006, the company has built lasting relationships with general contractors and delivered plumbing scopes for schools, medical offices, surgery centers, churches, shell buildings, multifamily communities, apartments, and luxury condominiums. Under its current ownership, LT Plumbing has tripled in revenue and is continuing to expand. The company is intentionally building the leadership team, systems, and processes needed for its next stage of growth. As a privately held business, LT Plumbing offers the stability of an established contractor with the access, autonomy, and influence to make a visible impact. The Opportunity LT Plumbing is hiring a Chief Estimator to lead and modernize its commercial plumbing estimating function. This is a succession-planning role with meaningful overlap alongside the company's long-tenured estimator, who will remain a technical resource and mentor. The new Chief Estimator will gradually assume department leadership, develop junior estimating talent, and hold a seat on LT Plumbing's leadership team. The right person will do more than complete takeoffs. They will proactively pursue opportunities, improve bid volume and competitiveness, strengthen general contractor relationships, implement modern estimating tools, and create a more consistent connection between estimating, procurement, and operations. Key Responsibilities Lead the commercial plumbing estimating function, including department strategy, workflow, technology, quality standards, and talent development.
Manage the full bid lifecycle:
opportunity identification, bid qualification, plan and specification review, takeoffs, pricing, proposal development, submission, follow-up, award, and project handoff. Prepare and oversee accurate labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, allowance, alternate, exclusion, and risk estimates for projects. Maintain a healthy mix of larger anchor bids and smaller filler projects to support backlog and revenue goals. Proactively identify opportunities through bid boards, general contractor relationships, industry contacts, and market activity rather than relying only on inbound invitations. Build and nurture relationships with general contractors, suppliers, and partners; attend industry events and follow up consistently after bids are submitted. Lead bid reviews and clearly communicate scope, assumptions, risks, unusual conditions, and pricing strategy before submission. Create a disciplined handoff process so operations, field leadership, and procurement understand the awarded scope, budget, estimate, and project risks. Evaluate and implement modern takeoff, estimating, CRM, automation, and AI-enabled tools that improve speed, accuracy, documentation, and bid volume. Required Experience and Qualifications At least 8 years of commercial plumbing estimating experience, with the ability to independently manage complex bids from review through submission. Experience estimating commercial plumbing scopes valued at $2 million or more, while remaining comfortable with smaller projects. Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, materials, labor, installation methods, codes, specifications, and construction sequencing. Experience across multiple building types, ideally including concrete commercial construction and wood-frame multifamily projects. Experience bidding to large regional or national general contractors and navigating their administrative, compliance, and proposal requirements. Strong plan-reading, takeoff, scope-development, vendor-pricing, and bid-analysis skills. Proficiency with digital estimating or takeoff platforms such as FastPIPE, AccuBid, Trimble, QuoteSoft, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, or comparable software, along with strong Excel skills. Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, communication, and relationship-management ability. A proactive, technology-forward, accountable, and solutions-oriented approach. Existing Florida or Southeast GC relationships and familiarity with piece-rate estimating are preferred. How We Work LT Plumbing's core values are straightforward: do the right thing, build strong relationships, solve problems, care about people and quality, and put the project first. Successful team members own mistakes, communicate bad news early, follow through on commitments, ask for help when needed, and focus on solutions rather than blame. Equal Opportunity LT Plumbing provides equal employment opportunities to qualified applicants and employees. Employment decisions are based on business needs, job requirements, and individual qualifications without regard to legally protected characteristics.
