Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a freelance, detail-oriented Structural Steel Estimator for our small family owned steel and precast erection business. In this role you will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs associated with structural steel components for commercial construction projects. Your expertise will help ensure project bids are competitive, precise, and aligned with client expectations. This is a remote contract position for someone who has experience and knowledge of the Dallas Fort Worth commercial project market . Responsibilities Review and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications related to structural steel components. Utilize estimating software and construction management tools to prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services. Analyze project plans to determine material requirements and develop accurate quantity takeoffs using Bluebeam and other digital tools Manage project budgets by monitoring costs throughout the estimating process and adjusting estimates as needed for scope changes or unforeseen conditions Prepare comprehensive bid proposals, including detailed spreadsheets and cost breakdowns, ensuring clarity and transparency in all submissions. Skills Proficiency in estimating software such as HeavyBid, Xactimate, or similar platforms. Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications. Excellent skills in blueprint reading, material cost estimating, and quantity takeoffs using Bluebeam or comparable tools Knowledge of construction management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) Deep understanding of cost management principles, including cost control and estimation for large-scale projects. Construction site experience combined with a solid background in heavy civil or structural steel projects. Ability to interpret technical drawings accurately and review construction documents thoroughly
