Project Estimator Architectural Millwork & Custom Woodwork R.J. Wherry & Associates R.J. Wherry & Associates is a growing architectural millwork and custom woodwork firm delivering high-end cabinetry, casework, and specialty wood products for commercial and institutional projects. We partner closely with general contractors, architects, and designers to execute complex, detail-driven scopes with precision. We are seeking a Project Estimator with experience in millwork, cabinetry, or related construction trades to prepare accurate, competitive estimates that support profitable and well-executed projects. This role is critical to our ability to pursue the right work, price it intelligently, and deliver consistent value to our clients. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with architectural drawings, specifications, and real-world shop constraints. Position Overview The Project Estimator is responsible for analyzing architectural and construction documents, quantifying millwork and specialty wood scopes, pricing materials and labor, and producing clear, accurate bids. You will work closely with ownership, project managers, suppliers, and trade partners to ensure estimates are realistic, competitive, and aligned with our production capabilities. Your work directly impacts company profitability, project success, and long-term client relationships. Key Responsibilities Review architectural drawings, specifications, and addenda with a strong understanding of AWI standards, casework construction, finishes, and installation requirements Break down scopes of work for custom millwork, cabinetry, solid surface, decorative panels, trims, and specialty assemblies Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and labor analysis based on shop capabilities and installation requirements Identify key cost drivers including materials, hardware, finishes, shop labor, installation labor, freight, and risk factors Obtain and evaluate pricing from suppliers, subcontractors, and specialty vendors Coordinate with internal project managers and shop leadership to validate assumptions and production feasibility Prepare clear, professional estimate summaries and bid proposals for general contractors and clients Assist with value engineering, alternates, and budget pricing when required Maintain organized records of historical pricing, vendor quotes, and project data Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, suppliers, and trade partners Provide estimating input related to schedules, manpower planning, and project phasing when needed Required Skills & Experience Proven experience as an estimator in architectural millwork, cabinetry, woodworking, or related construction trades Strong ability to read and interpret architectural, interior, and shop drawings Working knowledge of construction methods, materials, and finishes specific to millwork and casework Solid understanding of cost estimation, labor modeling, and project margins High level of numerical accuracy and analytical thinking Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets, and digital takeoff tools Excellent written and verbal communication skills Highly organized, thorough, and dependable Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously Why R.J.
