Technical Proficiency Full Job Description Job Overview:

Primoris T&D provides construction, maintenance, and engineering of electric Transmission, Distribution, and Substation infrastructure. Ancillary services include wireless telecommunication installation, environmental cleanup, project management, and storm restoration services. The Distribution Estimator is a seasoned professional responsible for developing accurate and detailed cost estimates for complex Distribution construction projects. This role requires strong technical proficiency, leadership, and collaboration across departments to ensure estimates align with project goals and organizational objectives. Key Responsibilities Develop detailed cost estimates for Overhead and Underground Distribution construction projects. Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work, bid packages, customer requirements, and other project documentation to understand project requirements and identify potential risks or scope gaps. Perform quantity takeoffs using Bluebeam Revu and other available project documentation. Build and maintain detailed estimates primarily using Microsoft Excel, including: Labor hours and crew requirements Equipment requirements Material quantities and costs Subcontractor costs Production assumptions Indirect and project-specific costs Develop labor and equipment assumptions based on construction methods, crew composition, productivity, and project conditions. Assist with the development of project schedules and construction durations using Microsoft Project. Evaluate project requirements such as mobilization, access, traffic control, restoration, permitting, environmental constraints, and other factors that may affect project cost. Identify exclusions, clarifications, assumptions, and potential risks associated with estimates. Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing as required. Compare vendor and subcontractor quotes to the project scope and ensure pricing is appropriately incorporated into the estimate. Participate in estimate reviews with Operations, Project Management, and company leadership. Support bid strategy discussions and provide information necessary to establish pricing and project execution plans. Maintain organized documentation supporting estimate quantities, pricing, assumptions, and calculations. Assist with handoff of awarded projects from estimating to Project Management and Operations. Review completed or active project performance to compare estimated versus actual labor, equipment, material, and production results and incorporate lessons learned into future estimates. Maintain and improve estimating templates, historical cost information, production assumptions, and estimating processes. Required Qualifications 3 to 5 years of experience within the Electrical Utility/Construction Industry or estimating experience within another construction, infrastructure, industrial, or related industry. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Bluebeam Revu, and Microsoft. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and bid documents. Understanding of construction estimating fundamentals, including labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and indirect costs. Strong analytical and mathematical skills with a high level of attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple estimates and priorities while meeting bid deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to clearly document and communicate estimating assumptions, exclusions, risks, and recommendations. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of distribution construction activities such as pole installation and replacement, conductor installation, underground conduit and cable systems, transformers, switching equipment, and associated civil work. Familiarity with utility construction crews, equipment, production rates, and construction sequencing. Experience using HardDollar estimating software is a plus but not required. Experience working with utility customers, engineering firms, subcontractors, vendors, or construction operations teams.
