Job Description

Structural Steel Estimator - North Fabrication North Fabrication is seeking a Structural Steel Estimator to join our team. We specialize in structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication and are looking for someone who understands construction drawings, can accurately estimate smaller projects, and can help evaluate larger opportunities before they enter our estimating pipeline. This position is not just about performing takeoffs. We need someone who can look at a project, understand the scope, identify potential risks, communicate with the estimating/project management team, and determine whether a project is a good fit for North Fabrication. Responsibilities Perform material and labor takeoffs for structural and miscellaneous steel projects. Use Bluebeam Revu to review drawings, specifications, addenda, and perform takeoffs. Independently estimate smaller structural and miscellaneous steel projects. Assist with larger projects that utilize our AI-assisted estimating/takeoff process . Review bid documents and determine the complete Division 5 scope. Qualify potential projects before significant estimating time is invested. Identify scope gaps, difficult details, schedule concerns, material availability issues, unusual specifications, and other project risks. Review addenda and revisions and determine their impact on pricing and scope. Solicit and review vendor and subcontractor pricing as required. Communicate with other estimators, project managers, general contractors, and customers regarding project requirements and scope. Prepare clear proposals with appropriate inclusions, exclusions, clarifications, and qualifications. Maintain organized estimating files and bid information. Assist with turnover of awarded projects from estimating to project management. Qualifications Candidates should have experience reading structural and architectural construction drawings and a working understanding of structural and miscellaneous steel. Experience with Bluebeam Revu is required . Candidates should also be comfortable with Microsoft Office , particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word. We are looking for someone who understands that a good estimator does more than count material. The right candidate should be able to evaluate constructability, scope, schedule, material availability, project complexity, and overall risk before a project is priced. Experience estimating structural steel fabrication, miscellaneous metals, or Division 5 construction is strongly preferred. What We're Looking For We want someone who is detail-oriented but efficient . You should know when a project requires a deeper review and when a straightforward project can be estimated and turned around quickly. You must also be comfortable communicating with the rest of the estimating and project management team. If something in the drawings doesn't make sense, appears risky, or could affect fabrication or erection, we expect you to identify it and bring it to the team's attention.
