$120,000-$160,000+ (Experience Dependent)About the OpportunityA growing construction management and engineering organization specializing in mission-critical facilities is seeking a Preconstruction Estimator to join its team in Ashburn, VA.The organization supports complex construction projects from early-stage preconstruction and design through project execution and closeout, working alongside owners, developers, general contractors, and other project stakeholders. The Estimator will play a key role during the preconstruction process by developing accurate cost estimates, reviewing drawings and specifications, evaluating project scopes, and supporting budgeting and procurement efforts.
This position is well suited for an estimator with experience in data centers, mission-critical facilities, commercial construction, or technically complex projects who is comfortable working with multiple disciplines and stakeholders.
Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare conceptual, schematic, design-development, and detailed construction cost estimates.
Review construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project documentation to develop accurate estimates.
Perform quantity takeoffs and evaluate material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
Develop and maintain project budgets throughout the preconstruction and design process.
Analyze subcontractor and vendor proposals for scope coverage, pricing, exclusions, and potential gaps.
Assist with bid leveling and scope comparisons across subcontractors and vendors.
Identify cost risks, constructability concerns, scope gaps, and potential opportunities for value engineering.
QualificationsPrevious construction estimating or preconstruction experience.
Experience estimating data center, mission-critical, industrial, commercial, or other technically complex construction projects strongly preferred.
Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
Experience performing quantity takeoffs and developing detailed construction estimates.
Understanding of construction materials, labor, equipment, subcontractor pricing, and procurement.
Experience evaluating subcontractor bids and identifying scope gaps or inconsistencies.
Preferred ExperienceData center or mission-critical construction experience.
Exposure to MEP-intensive construction, particularly electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
Experience working within a preconstruction, construction management, general contracting, or owner's representative environment.
Familiarity with estimating and takeoff software.
Experience developing estimates throughout multiple stages of design.
