Description:
Job Description SEG is seeking an experienced Estimator I to join our team in Hamilton, Virginia. The Estimator I is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for commercial, institutional, civil, and federal construction projects. This position works closely with project teams, subcontractors, and suppliers throughout the estimating and preconstruction process, from initial project review through proposal submission and project turnover. SEG performs a variety of construction projects, with a strong focus on work for the federal government. This is a great opportunity for an estimator who enjoys being involved throughout the pursuit process and wants to continue developing their estimating and preconstruction experience. What You'll Do Prepare conceptual, budgetary, and final construction cost estimates Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and contract documents Analyze labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and indirect project costs Develop estimates for SEG's self-performed work Review plans, specifications, statements of work, and solicitation requirements Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing Prepare scope comparisons and bid analyses Identify project risks, assumptions, and potential opportunities Participate in constructability reviews and value-engineering efforts Prepare RFIs, bid clarifications, pricing, and proposal documentation Attend site visits, pre-bid conferences, and project meetings Assist with preliminary schedules and project planning Participate in estimate reviews and pricing discussions Support project turnover from estimating to the operations team These responsibilities reflect the estimating, preconstruction, subcontractor coordination, proposal, and turnover functions outlined in the position description. What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant construction experience Minimum 5 years of estimating experience with a commercial, institutional, civil, industrial, or federal contractor Experience estimating both self-performed and subcontracted work Strong understanding of construction means, methods, materials, and sequencing Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and contract documents Strong analytical, mathematical, organizational, and communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and construction estimating software Government contracting and design-build experience preferred Certifications Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification First Aid/CPR and professional estimating certifications are a plus About SEG SEG is a small, growing construction company specializing in commercial, institutional, civil, and federal construction.
