We are building a high-performance estimating function anchored in clear standards, disciplined use of Bluebeam, Sage, and SharePoint, and a culture of ownership and accountability. Our team members are expected to demonstrate competence, document their work, and grow through a structured development pathway including AMPP, ASPE, and TalentLMS coursework. About the Role The Chief Estimator leads the Scott Coatings estimating department and owns the full estimating lifecycle. This is a department-leadership seat accountable for bid strategy, estimate accuracy, margin integrity at handoff, the historical cost and production rate database, and the development of estimating talent. The Chief Estimator sets and enforces the standards the team executes against, coordinates with Accounting and Purchasing to maintain rate integrity, and ensures every estimate reflects current, accurate costs that position Scott Coatings to win profitable work. What You Will Own Lead bid and no-bid decisions in partnership with the CEO; own the invitation pipeline and strategic bid selection. Set, document, and enforce Scott Coatings estimating standards across Bluebeam, SharePoint, the precon checklist, Bond Request workflow, and PMS and Sage margin entry. Own the historical unit cost and production rate database, including the lessons learned process that translates field outcomes into updated rates. Own rate integrity across REQ, MAT, OEQ, subcontractor, tax, workers compensation, and blended labor burden through monthly coordination with Accounting and Purchasing. Recruit, develop, and performance-manage the estimating team, including 90-day onboarding plans and annual training roadmaps. Cultivate relationships with General Contractors and Owners across the Pacific Northwest market. Deliver a monthly estimating scorecard to ownership covering win rate, margin variance, backlog, and pipeline value. What We Are Looking For Minimum 10 years of commercial or industrial coatings estimating experience. Minimum 5 years leading an estimating team or function, with documented team development outcomes. Advanced Bluebeam proficiency. Bluebeam is the non-negotiable Scott Coatings takeoff standard. Demonstrated experience building and enforcing estimating standards and SOPs. Deep knowledge of coating systems, surface preparation, and application methods across commercial and industrial markets. Strong negotiation, communication, and analytical skills. Bachelor's degree in architecture, construction management, engineering, or a related field; OR an equivalent combination of education, industry credentials (CPE, AMPP, PDCA), and estimating experience. Preferred Qualifications CPE credential through
ASPE. AMPP
(formerly NACE and SSPC) coatings-specific credentials. Experience managing Pacific Northwest union labor cost structures. Experience building or rebuilding a historical cost and production rate database. Actual compensation within the range will reflect years of relevant experience, industry credentials, and demonstrated leadership outcomes.
