Job Description
Job Title Estimator Job Description Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and project documentation to develop accurate cost estimates for fabrication, machining, and assembly processes. Deconstruct complex assemblies into detailed cost components including materials, labor, machine time, subcontracting, and overhead. Ensure all cost data and documentation comply with the Truth in Negotiations Act (TINA) and Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). Prepare comprehensive cost breakdowns, pricing narratives, and supporting documentation for government and prime contractor proposals. Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Production, Procurement, and Program Management to validate assumptions and refine manufacturing strategies. Leverage estimating and ERP systems such as Paperless Parts and Infor Syteline to create, manage, and track estimate data. Provide strategic insights into pricing competitiveness based on market trends and historical benchmarks. Identify cost drivers, project risks, and opportunities for value engineering. Participate in proposal reviews and pricing audits to ensure accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance. Mentor junior estimators by sharing best practices in cost modeling, process analysis, and quoting techniques. Drive continuous improvement initiatives in estimating processes and data management practices. Skills and Qualifications Required Experience in estimation, bidding, blueprint reading, and using estimating software. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Minimum of 5+ years of estimating experience in precision metal fabrication, machining, or welded assemblies. Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems, preferably Infor Syteline, and estimating platforms such as Paperless Parts. Proven experience producing TINA-compliant cost data and supporting certified cost or pricing data submissions. Ability to maintain audit-ready documentation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Familiarity with ASTM standards and practices.
