Position Summary Bay View Industries is seeking an experienced Senior Cost Estimator to join our team. This position is employed by Bay View Industries and works as part of the SurfaceWorks brand team, supporting the goals, operations, and customers of the SurfaceWorks brand. The Senior Cost Estimator plays an important role in evaluating new and existing product opportunities and developing accurate, competitive cost estimates that support both our customers and our manufacturing operations. The Senior Cost Estimator reviews customer drawings, specifications, materials, manufacturing requirements, and other technical information to determine product feasibility, labor requirements, material costs, and overall pricing. This role works closely with customers, Sales, Engineering, Customer Service, Manufacturing, and other internal teams. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical and technical skills with practical manufacturing knowledge and the ability to communicate effectively with both customers and internal teams. An engineering, manufacturing engineering, or technical background is preferred, particularly for candidates with experience interpreting drawings, evaluating manufacturing processes, or developing products for production. Key Responsibilities Review customer drawings, specifications, proposals, and technical documentation to develop accurate material, labor, and manufacturing cost estimates. Prepare quotations and pricing recommendations while evaluating product feasibility and overall cost effectiveness. Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and other technical information. Work directly with customers and Sales Representatives to understand product requirements, answer technical questions, and identify solutions. Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Customer Service, Purchasing, and other departments to develop estimates and resolve technical or costing questions. Evaluate manufacturing processes, material requirements, labor standards, and production methods when developing estimates. Develop and maintain standard labor hours, cost data, and historical costing information. Review current costs against historical costs and margin information to support pricing decisions. Participate as a member of cross-functional quoting teams when new products require new materials, processes, equipment, or manufacturing capabilities. Identify potential manufacturing challenges and communicate unusual or complex projects and quotations to management. Assist in the development and maintenance of Configurator bills of materials, master routings, formulas, tables, and part numbers. Test Configurator logic and formulas to ensure accuracy and reliability. Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the Configurator database and quotation process. Assist Customer Service with proper Configurator order-entry techniques and troubleshooting. Develop material upcharges and cancellation charges as requested. Utilize cut-planning and sheet-stock optimization tools to evaluate material usage and cost. Review margin analysis information and apply findings to pricing and future quotations. Provide training, guidance, and technical support to Cost Estimators as needed. Maintain accurate costing information and supporting documentation. Support continuous improvement initiatives related to estimating, quoting, costing, and manufacturing processes. Follow Bay View Industries' Quality Policy and uphold the principles of our Quality Management System. Maintain technical knowledge through ongoing education, industry resources, and professional development. Qualifications The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working with both technical information and people. This position requires the ability to manage multiple quotations and priorities while maintaining accuracy and communicating effectively across departments.

Preferred qualifications include:

Bachelor's degree or three to five years of related estimating, engineering, manufacturing, costing, or technical experience; equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered. Engineering or technical manufacturing background strongly preferred. Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, labor requirements, and product costing. Experience developing quotations, cost estimates, or manufacturing pricing. Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills. Strong computer skills and experience working with ERP, estimating, configurator, or manufacturing systems. Ability to communicate technical information clearly to customers and employees at different levels of the organization. Strong attention to detail with the ability to balance accuracy, responsiveness, and changing priorities. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional environment. Supervisory Responsibilities This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but serves as an experienced resource to other members of the estimating team and may assist with training and development.
