Flooring Installer (Contract) UMD Department of Residential Facilities College Park, MD Job Details Contract $16.50 - $18.00 an hour 23 hours ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance Employee discount Qualifications Customer service Academic institution experience Cutting Driver's License Construction plans Blueprint dimension interpretation Experience at colleges/universities University experience Full Job Description Organizational Summary The Department of Residential Facilities is responsible for the maintenance and housekeeping services for the College Park Campus' 70+ residence halls, Greek chapter houses, and recreational facilities encompassing over 2.7 million square feet. The department employs over 300 exempt, non-exempt and student staff.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Flooring Installer (Contract) provides professional flooring installation, repair, replacement, and related services throughout University of Maryland facilities. Work may include residential, academic, administrative, and common areas and must be completed in accordance with university standards, manufacturer specifications, applicable codes, and safety requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Install, repair, and replace various flooring materials. Remove flooring and prepare surfaces for installation. Measure, cut, fit, and install flooring around obstacles. Install and repair baseboards, cove base, thresholds, and transitions. Apply adhesives, primers, sealants, and underlayment as required. Inspect completed work for quality, appearance, and durability. Protect University property and maintain a safe, clean work area. Remove and properly dispose of flooring and debris. Coordinate work with University staff, occupants, and contractors. Report delays, damage, material concerns, and site conditions. Follow University, OSHA, environmental, and PPE requirements. Required Qualifications Experience performing commercial, institutional, or residential flooring installation and repair. Knowledge of flooring materials, installation methods, tools, adhesives, and surface preparation. Ability to accurately measure, cut, fit, and install flooring materials. Ability to read and follow basic plans, specifications, and work instructions. Ability to safely operate flooring tools and equipment. Ability to work independently and complete assignments within established schedules. Professional communication and customer service skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in higher education, commercial, healthcare, residential, or other institutional facilities. Experience installing multiple flooring systems, including carpet tile, LVT, VCT, sheet vinyl, and tile. Experience with subfloor preparation, leveling, and moisture mitigation. Relevant flooring trade certifications or manufacturer training.''
