POSITION SUMMARY

Classic Flooring Solutions is seeking an experienced Hardwood Flooring Technician II to join our professional flooring team. The Technician II is a skilled flooring professional who has progressed beyond the apprentice/helper level and can perform significant portions of hardwood installation, sanding, refinishing, repair, and jobsite preparation with limited supervision. This position works directly with Lead Technicians on higher-end residential and commercial projects and is expected to contribute meaningful production to the project—not simply assist. The ideal candidate understands that professional hardwood flooring requires technical knowledge, precision, efficiency, cleanliness, and attention to detail . The Technician II is also expected to continue developing the skills necessary to become a Lead Technician / Craftsman.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESHARDWOOD FLOORING INSTALLATION

The Technician II will be capable of performing a substantial portion of hardwood flooring installations, including: Install solid and engineered hardwood flooring. Perform nail-down and glue-down installations using approved methods. Properly prepare substrates for installation. Perform moisture testing as required. Assist with layout and material planning. Accurately measure and calculate material requirements. Perform precise cuts and fitting. Install flooring around cabinets, fireplaces, vents, stairs, doorways, and other obstacles. Install transitions, reducers, thresholds, base shoe, quarter round, and related trim. Understand expansion requirements and proper installation clearances. Install straight and random-width flooring. Assist with specialty installations including herringbone, chevron, borders, and custom layouts. Recognize installation problems before they become expensive repairs. Maintain professional installation quality throughout the project.

SANDING & REFINISHING

The Technician II should have practical experience operating professional flooring equipment and be capable of performing sanding work with limited supervision.

Responsibilities include:

Operate drum sanders, belt sanders, edgers, buffers, and other flooring equipment. Perform rough, intermediate, and finish sanding procedures. Perform professional edging and detail sanding. Screen and buff floors. Identify sanding imperfections and correct them before finishing. Prepare floors for stain, sealer, and finish. Assist with stain application and color matching. Apply water-based and oil-based finish systems according to company procedures and manufacturer specifications. Perform board replacement and minor flooring repairs. Blend repairs into existing flooring when possible. Identify wood species and understand differences in sanding and finishing characteristics. Maintain consistent sanding patterns and professional finished results.

FLOOR REPAIR & PROBLEM SOLVING

The Technician II should be developing the ability to diagnose flooring problems.

This includes recognizing:

Excessive gaps Cupping Crowning Uneven substrates Loose boards Squeaks Damaged boards Finish problems Improper previous repairs Moisture-related concerns Installation deficiencies Wood species and color variation Problems that may prevent a quality finished product The Technician II is expected to identify and communicate problems rather than work around them or hide them. When a problem is discovered, the employee should communicate: What the problem is. What caused or may have caused it. What options are available. What additional time or materials may be required.

JOBSITE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Technician II is responsible for maintaining a professional jobsite throughout the project.

Responsibilities include:

Protect walls, cabinets, furniture, doors, trim, and finished surfaces. Properly install and maintain floor protection. Maintain dust containment. Keep tools and equipment organized. Maintain clean work areas throughout the day. Properly stage materials. Remove debris and waste. Perform daily jobsite cleanup. Complete final cleanup before leaving the project. Ensure the jobsite is safe for customers and other trades. A clean jobsite is part of quality workmanship.

CUSTOMER & PROFESSIONAL INTERACTION

Technician II employees may interact directly with homeowners, builders, general contractors, designers, and other trades.

EQUIPMENT & TOOL RESPONSIBILITY

The Technician II is expected to demonstrate competency with common flooring tools and equipment, including: Flooring nailers Pneumatic tools Drum/belt sanders Edgers Buffers Vacuums and dust collection systems Miter saws Table saws Circular saws Oscillating tools Hand tools Moisture meters Measuring and layout equipment Employees are responsible for properly maintaining company tools and equipment and reporting damage, malfunction, or unsafe conditions immediately.

PRODUCTIVITY EXPECTATIONS A

Technician II is expected to contribute directly to job production. The employee should be able to: Work efficiently without sacrificing quality. Maintain consistent production throughout the workday. Properly prepare tools and materials before beginning work. Anticipate the next steps of the project. Minimize unnecessary downtime. Work independently on assigned portions of the project. Help the Lead Technician keep the project on schedule. Complete work correctly without excessive rework. Productivity does not mean rushing. Quality and efficiency are expected to work together.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS

Follow all company safety policies. Use appropriate PPE. Operate equipment only when properly trained. Maintain safe electrical cords, hoses, tools, and work areas. Properly handle adhesives, stains, finishes, and other chemicals. Report unsafe conditions immediately. Protect customers, coworkers, and other trades from hazards. Never sacrifice safety or workmanship to save time.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Professional experience in hardwood flooring installation and/or refinishing. Demonstrated ability to operate professional flooring equipment. Ability to perform assigned installation and sanding tasks with limited supervision. Understanding of basic hardwood installation practices. Strong attention to detail. Good mechanical aptitude. Ability to troubleshoot basic flooring problems. Reliable attendance and transportation. Ability to work effectively as part of a two-person or larger flooring crew. Ability to communicate professionally with customers and coworkers.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The position requires the ability to: Stand and walk for extended periods. Bend, kneel, squat, and work on hands and knees. Lift and carry flooring materials and equipment. Work on stairs and uneven surfaces. Operate heavy flooring equipment. Work in residential and commercial construction environments. Work around dust, noise, adhesives, stains, and finishes.
