About us Alleghany Industrial Insulation Co. is a mechanical and industrial insulation contractor based in McKean County, Pennsylvania. The role This estimator will prepare takeoffs and pricing for mechanical insulation projects in commercial settings including schools and universities, medical facilities, office buildings, correctional institutions, municipal housing, hospitality spaces, courthouses, and many other settings. The estimator will work from drawings and specifications in our office, produce accurate bids, coordinate with vendors for pricing, and talk with the contractors and clients we bid to. Mechanical insulation experience is a plus, not a requirement. We expect to train the right person on our materials, methods, and pricing. What we need is someone who wants to learn this trade, is careful with numbers, and can communicate clearly. What you will do Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents for commercial insulation scope Complete quantity takeoffs (primarily manual; FastWrap is available and can be used) Price labor and material using company rates and current vendor pricing Prepare clear proposals with scope, pricing, inclusions, and exclusions Call contractors and clients as needed to clarify bid documents, submit quotes, and follow up Meet bid deadlines and keep estimate files organized Work with project managers so awarded work is handed off cleanly What we are looking for - Must have Strong attention to detail and comfort with measurements, quantities, and pricing Experience reading blueprints / mechanical drawings Proficiency with computers: Microsoft Excel, PDF software, Outlook, and general Windows office tools Clear, professional and comfortable phone communication skills Willingness to learn mechanical insulation systems, materials, and estimating practices Ability to work in-person at our Bradford office Valid driver's license Preferred, not required Construction estimating, takeoff, or specialty-trade bidding experience Familiarity with Sage Construction Management Experience with FastWrap or similar takeoff software About you You are organized, detail-oriented, and reliable. You take ownership of your work and follow through without needing constant oversight. You are comfortable managing bid deadlines while producing accurate takeoffs and pricing from drawings and specifications. You communicate clearly by phone, maintain confidentiality, and work well both independently and alongside ownership and project managers. You are steady under pressure, willing to learn mechanical insulation, and take pride in doing the job right the first time. This is a high-accuracy estimating role in a specialty trade. The right person will be precise with numbers, professional with contractors and clients, and comfortable working in a project-driven commercial construction office.
