About Dyson & Womack Dyson & Womack is an art consulting firm and fabrication studio, DW Studio (DWS), based in Los Angeles. DWS provides fabrication, design, and engineering services to artists, architects, and other creative professionals. DWS specializes in high-end art fabrication, including metal work, assembly, and sculpting, foundry services, finishing, and paint/patina finishes. Job Summary As a Fabricator, you will operate with integrity, transparency, and resourcefulness; supporting our projects and the diverse artists with which we work. An ideal candidate will have relevant experience working in a fabrication studio or relevant field, be a team player, and be comfortable with standard tools and processes in metal fabrication. The Fabricator will support projects across diverse materials and media, working on small and large-scale artworks. The Fabricator will utilize skills in making art objects, including the ability to read and interpret drawings, calculate material measurements, and assemble, cut, join, bend, and process materials into art objects. Join our highly motivated team who exercise a strong degree of craftsmanship and problem-solving to address complex fabrication projects with efficiency and skill. The Fabricator must be open to some site work. We encourage interested fabricators who specialize in a variety of media to apply. Duties and Responsibilities Fabricate art objects utilizing a variety of materials and methods; Work with a high degree of craftsmanship, skill, and attention to detail; Accurately interpret dimensional drawings and cut lists; Calculate material measurements to verify specifications; Report daily on progress against overall project deadlines; Follow DWS fabrication methods and suggest improvements as able; Document fabrication processes; Maintain an organized, clean, and tidy workspace; and Support expansion of studio facilities and projects. Qualifications and Experience The ideal candidate will demonstrate a high degree of proficiency in operating a variety of common woodworking, metalworking, and finishing equipment and will be comfortable working with wood, metal, foam, glass, stone, concrete, and plastics. Candidates will also be able to read and understand schematics and blueprints and translate these concepts from miniatures to large-scale artworks, demonstrating basic skills in math and spatial reasoning. 1 to 2 years of experience in fabrication.
Ability to:
stand and stay active for 8 hours per day, lift and move heavy objects (50+ lbs.), and operate standard metal working equipment and tools. A valid California driver's license is required. Light travel for work will be occasionally required. Compensation & Benefits This is a full-time (5 days, 40 hour work week) position. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
