Shipfitter with a minimum of two years experience working in a shipyard. Pay Rate $25.00 - $29.50 A Shipfitter is responsible for constructing, assembling, and installing metal structures and components that form the framework of ships and marine vessels. This role requires strong blueprint-reading skills, precision cutting and fitting abilities, and the ability to work safely in shipyard environments.

Key Responsibilities:

Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and marine construction drawings. Lay out, cut, and fit metal plates, frames, bulkheads, decks, and structural components. Fabricate and install structural parts using torch cutting, grinding, plasma cutting, and welding. Align, tack weld, and secure metal pieces to build or repair ship structures. Install foundations, clips, brackets, stanchions, and other structural supports. Use measuring tools such as levels, squares, plumb bobs, tape measures, and micrometers to ensure accuracy. Prepare materials by marking, beveling, grinding, and shaping metals. Operate cranes, chain falls, come-alongs, and rigging equipment to position heavy components. Inspect work to ensure alignment, quality, and compliance with shipyard standards. Maintain a clean and safe work area while following all OSHA and shipyard safety regulations. Collaborate with welders, pipefitters, supervisors, and marine engineers to complete projects on schedule.

Skills & Qualifications:

Proficient in structural fitting, metal fabrication, and blueprint reading. Strong knowledge of ship construction methods and structural components. Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and various weather conditions. Familiarity with welding processes (tack welding, arc welding) is a plus. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and mechanical aptitude. Ability to use rigging equipment and heavy tools safely.
