WELDER - AMITE LA DAY & NIGHT SHIFT GENERAL SUMMARY

A worker who welds together heavy structural metal components as specified by blueprints, work orders, or oral instructions under direct supervision.

High school diploma/GED equivalentValid drivers licenseWritten and verbal communication skillsKnowledge of basic shop mathematicsExperience in heavy structural fabricationAbility to read and understand blueprints, shop drawings and welding symbolsProficient in effective operation of welding equipment1-2 years welding experience with some flux core welding (FCAW)Must pass welding test as part of the application process

DUTIES:

Perform welding tasks as directed under the direction of the immediate supervisor.

Identify and adhere to the appropriate Weld Procedure for the task at hand.

Provide quality welds that meet specifications and approval of the Quality Control Inspector and Production Manager. This includes, but is not limited to, proper weld size, weld profile, cleaning, preheating, etc.

Complete any relevant specific job duties as required by immediate supervisionConfirm temporary bracing is installed as needed to avoid distortion and remove bracing when complete.

Operate punches, grinders, drills, saws, oxy-fuel torches, plasma cutters, and other basic equipment & hand tools.

Move and/or organize material as needed to support production tasks.

Maintain a clean and orderly workstation.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

Adhere to all Southland Steel Fabricators, Inc. Safety Rules, Policies, and ProceduresMaintain orderly and clean work area Attend all required safety meetings Inspect the welding equipment each day to ensure it meets safety standards with special attention to welding leadsMust inspect tools daily before each use, to include extension cordsUse hand and power tools safely at all times with correct guards in placeWear personal protective equipment in accordance with policy and adequate for specific tasksWelding - Wear specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE),including but not limited to:

Welders helmet with appropriately shaded filter lens, with safety glasses under helmet Fire/flame resistant clothingHeavy flame resistant glovesRespirators when welding harmful metals or when ventilation is not adequateSteel/hard toe bootsHearing protection Cutting steel with torch:

Wear either properly shaded safety glasses with a face shield or cutting goggles, hearing protection, steel/hard toe boots, gloves, and fire/flame resistant clothing Use proper friction lighters or other approved devices to light the torch

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

In order to do the job, the following physical requirements are necessary: Ability to stand for long periods of timeAbility to occasionally pull, push, carry, or lift tools, equipment or materials 50 lbs. or lessAbility to withstand occasional bending, squatting, or crouchingAbility to frequently handle (hold, seize, grasp, turn, etc.) tools, equipment, or materialAbility to work in inclement weather conditions, to include cold, heat, and humidity
