Job Description

Bert's Welding LLC is seeking an experienced On-the-Tools Foreman to lead structural steel fabrication and erection work. This is not an office or hands-off supervisory position. The foreman will work alongside the crew daily while being responsible for productivity, quality, safety, and keeping the job moving. Responsibilities Work directly alongside the crew performing structural steel fabrication and erection. Perform SMAW (Stick) and FCAW/Dual Shield welding, fitting, cutting, grinding, drilling, and general fabrication. Fabricate structural steel including beams, columns, HSS, plates, stairs, handrails, supports, and miscellaneous steel. Lead field erection of structural steel, including setting beams and columns, plumbing and aligning steel, bolting connections, and field welding. Read and understand structural drawings, shop drawings, details, weld symbols, and field dimensions. Lay out and fit steel accurately from drawings and field measurements. Direct a small crew and assign daily tasks based on job priorities. Coordinate lifts and work safely around telehandlers, cranes, man lifts, and other erection equipment. Inspect completed work and ensure welds, fit-up, dimensions, and installation meet project requirements. Keep the crew productive and identify problems before they cause delays. Communicate material, equipment, manpower, and jobsite needs to management. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Take responsibility for company tools, welding equipment, rigging, and jobsite equipment. Lead by example and be willing to perform the same physical work expected from the crew. Qualifications Strong structural steel welding, fitting, fabrication, and erection experience required. Previous foreman, lead welder, lead fitter, or crew-lead experience preferred. Must be proficient with Stick and Dual Shield/FCAW welding. Must be able to read structural and fabrication drawings without constant supervision. Strong understanding of structural steel fit-up and erection. Rigging and signaling experience preferred. Must understand jobsite and welding safety. Must be comfortable working at heights and from lifts. Must be dependable, able to make decisions in the field, and capable of leading other employees. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required. AWS structural welding certifications are a plus. What We Are Looking For We need someone who can be handed a set of drawings and a crew and get the job done. The right person should be equally comfortable fabricating steel in the shop, welding in the field, and leading an erection crew. This position is for someone who takes pride in their work, understands production, can solve problems in the field, and leads from the front rather than standing back and watching the crew work.
