In this role, you will be responsible for executing quality welding and fitting tasks on structural steel components and miscellaneous steel assemblies such as laying out, fit, and tack-weld heavy beams, columns, braces, stairs, handrails, and custom miscellaneous steel items to 1/16" tolerances. Working from shop drawings, you'll ensure every piece is plumb, square, and ready for final welding—directly impacting field erection speed and safety. Responsibilities Lay out, fit, and tack-weld structural shapes (W-beams, HSS, channels, angles) and plate Fabricate miscellaneous items: stairs, ladders, handrails, guardrails, embeds, etc. Read and interpret structural steel shop drawings, weld symbols, and bill of materials Operate torches, grinders, mag drills, and layout tools to prep and fit components within 1/16" tolerance Verify fit-up with squares, levels, lasers, and tape measures before final weld-out Tag and stage completed assemblies for QC and galvanizing/shipping Maintain work area, and equipment in a neat and orderly condition. Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Proficient in reading and interpreting blue prints, drawings and specifications. Experience with electrical and manual tools. Demonstrated ability to understand and follow through on verbal and written instructions. Knowledge of safety standards Self-motivated and able to prioritize in a fast-paced environment. Adaptability and flexibility to shift priorities based on the organizations' needs. Ability to work independently and as a team member. Dependability, integrity and professionalism are essential. This full-time position operates in a production environment. Physical effort consists of frequent handling of light to average weight tools or materials, some handling of heavy weights, some pulling, pushing. The employee must be able to lift and move items up to 50 pounds. Work performed requires constant alertness and activity, good eye/hand coordination and concentrated mental and visual attention.
