Class Shipfitter Job Location:

Norfolk, VA Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced 1st Class Shipfitter for shipyard fabrication and fitting work. The ideal candidate will have strong structural fitting experience, be able to read blueprints, and successfully pass a tack weld test .

Responsibilities:

Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and templates. Lay out, fit, and fabricate steel and aluminum structures and assemblies. Perform tack welding of assemblies, foundations, decks, bulkheads, and shell structures. Install structural outfitting items, including doors, ladders, hatches, and foundations. Perform shop and field fabrication using hand and power tools. Use heating torches for plate heat straightening and shrinkage. Perform fitting, assembly, and structural repairs as required. Work safely in confined spaces, including manholes and internal ship compartments. Follow all applicable safety procedures, industry codes, and specifications. Perform firewatch and other safety-related duties as required.

Requirements:

4-5+ years of shipfitting/fitting experience required. 1st Class Shipfitter classification based on experience. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints . Must successfully pass a tack weld test . Strong knowledge of shipyard fabrication and fitting. Ability to use hand and power tools. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Must be able to work in confined spaces. U.S. citizenship required. Must successfully complete a 3-week training program . Must meet all required safety and PPE requirements, including firewatch . Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic are required.
