Full Job Description Miscellaneous Metals Fabricator Location:
Richmond, VA Shift:
First Shift (Occasional Saturday overtime)
Compensation:
Starting at $22/hour (higher based on experience) Role Overview This position is responsible for fabricating and assembling a variety of metal components such as rail systems, stair assemblies, ladders, and other miscellaneous steel items. The role requires strong blueprint comprehension, hands-on fabrication ability, and the flexibility to work efficiently in a production-oriented environment with changing priorities. Primary Responsibilities Build and assemble railings, stairs, ladders, and related metal components using shop drawings and technical plans. Operate metal fabrication equipment including saws, shears, press brakes, and welding machines while following safe work practices. Read and interpret detailed fabrication drawings, job tickets, and specifications to ensure accuracy. Perform layout, cutting, fitting, welding, and finishing operations to meet quality and schedule requirements. Maintain high craftsmanship standards while managing tight deadlines and shifting workloads. Work closely with supervisors, engineers, and fellow fabricators to complete projects correctly and on time. Inspect completed work to confirm it meets internal and customer quality standards. Assist in identifying fabrication challenges and recommending practical solutions. Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety expectations. Adjust quickly to changes in project scope or production schedules without sacrificing quality. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Demonstrated experience in metal fabrication, particularly miscellaneous metals and railing systems. Proficiency in FCAW welding; certifications are a plus. Strong ability to read and interpret shop drawings and blueprints. High attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work. Effective time management and ability to multitask. Physically capable of lifting materials up to 50 pounds and working in an industrial environment. Team-focused attitude with the ability to handle a fast-paced, production-driven workload. Willingness to move between multiple jobs to meet tight or changing schedules. Work Conditions Indoor shop environment with exposure to dust, welding fumes, exhaust, and paint vapors. Regular exposure to noise, moving equipment, and electrical hazards. Standard weekday shift with early start times; flexibility required for overtime and weekend work when needed. Must wear required personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, protective footwear, hearing protection, and appropriate work attire. Long pants required at all times while on the shop floor.

How did you handle it while keeping quality and schedule on track?" Pace, Flexibility & Physical Readiness "This role involves lifting heavy material, switching between jobs, and sometimes working overtime or Saturdays. Are you comfortable with that type of pace and schedule, and can you give an example from a past role?"
