  • Position Purpose The Field Technician I is an entry-level field position responsible for supporting oil and gas flowback and produced water treatment operations at active job sites in the Midland, Texas area.
This role is designed as a hands-on learning position where the Field Technician develops foundational skills in safety, equipment operation, sampling, and site support while working under the direct guidance of experienced Field Technicians, Lead Field Technicians, and Site Owners. This position serves as the starting point in the WT O&G field career ladder and is intended to prepare individuals for progression into higher-level Field Technician roles.
  • What a New Hire Will Do First Day 0-90 Expectations During the initial onboarding and training period, the Field Technician I will focus on learning site operations and safely supporting ongoing water treatment activities.
Primary responsibilities include:
Observe and assist with operation of water treatment equipment including filters, pumps, hoses, piping, and skids Monitor system pressures, flow rates, and visual indicators and report abnormalities to the Lead Field Technician or Site Owner Assist with rig-up and rig-down activities under supervision Collect produced water samples using approved sampling methods and required PPE Perform basic field water quality tests and accurately document results Maintain housekeeping standards around equipment, chemical areas, and work zones Follow all company, client, and site-specific safety rules without exception Participate in safety meetings, JSAs, and shift handovers Communicate clearly during shift changes and daily operations This phase emphasizes learning, observation, and safe participation, not independent decision-making.
  • Progressive Responsibilities As Skills and Competency Increase As the Field Technician I gains experience and demonstrates competency, responsibilities may expand to include: Operating treatment equipment with reduced supervision Assisting with basic maintenance such as hose changes, filter servicing, and minor repairs Supporting calibration of instrumentation and chemical injection systems under supervision Providing observations and data to support troubleshooting efforts Assisting with system modifications and operational adjustments as directed Independent work is earned through demonstrated safety awareness, reliability, and performance.
  • Safety Responsibilities Safety is a core responsibility of the Field Technician I role.
Expectations include:
Strict adherence to all WT O&G safety policies and procedures Compliance with client site rules and environmental requirements Proper use of required PPE including FR clothing, hard hats, safety glasses, and gas monitors Immediate reporting of hazards, near misses, incidents, or unsafe conditions Understanding and exercising Stop Work Authority when conditions are unsafe No task is considered urgent enough to bypass safety requirements.
  • Required Skills and Traits This role does not require prior water treatment experience.
Successful candidates typically demonstrate:
Strong work ethic and willingness to learn Mechanical curiosity and hands-on aptitude Ability to follow procedures and instructions Attention to detail and situational awareness Team-oriented mindset Ability to work in fast-paced, field-based environments Willingness to perform physical work outdoors Oilfield, mechanical, or industrial experience is helpful but not required.
  • Education and Certifications High School Diploma or equivalent required Oilfield, mechanical, or electrical experience is a plus Required safety training and certifications will be provided during onboarding
  • Work Environment and Physical Demands Field-based position at active oil and gas locations Outdoor work in heat, cold, rain, wind, and dusty conditions Rotating shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays Extended periods of standing, walking, bending, climbing, and lifting Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs Long and irregular hours based on operational needs
