POSITION OVERVIEW

Sol Landscapes, Inc. is seeking a part-time Landscape Designer to provide landscape design and drafting support for enhancement, renovation, and select small-scale landscape projects. A primary focus of this position is the design and enhancement of existing, established landscapes within our portfolio of high-end residential, commercial, and select HOA properties. Projects may include refreshing planting areas, redesigning portions of an existing landscape, developing new planting concepts and plant palettes, addressing areas that are underperforming or no longer meeting the client's needs, and thoughtfully incorporating new landscape elements into an established design. The Landscape Designer may also develop ground-up designs for smaller-scale landscapeprojects, such as individual yards, garden areas, outdoor spaces, or targeted property renovations. These projects may involve developing a new landscape concept using existing site conditions, field measurements and observations, available site documentation, and/or aerial imagery, while remaining appropriate to the scale and scope of the project. This position also provides CAD and technical drawing support, including revisions and updates to existing landscape plans and preparation of drawings needed to support enhancement, renovation, and installation work. The ideal candidate combines strong plant and landscape design knowledge with practical drafting skills and an ability to work effectively in both established landscapes and smaller-scale new design environments.

LANDSCAPE DESIGN & ENHANCEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop landscape enhancement and renovation concepts for existing residential, commercial, and HOA properties. Develop ground-up landscape designs for select small-scale projects, including individual yards, garden areas, outdoor spaces, and targeted property renovations. Evaluate existing landscapes and identify opportunities to improve appearance, functionality, seasonal interest, plant composition, and overall landscape quality when requested. Develop site-responsive design concepts based on existing conditions, client objectives, property character, and the intended use of the space. Design renovations or refreshes of planting beds, garden areas, entries, screening areas, containers, and other portions of established landscapes. Develop planting layouts and recommendations that integrate appropriately with existing plant material, architecture, hardscape, and surrounding landscape elements. Develop planting plans for new landscape areas, including plant selection, quantities, sizing, spacing, and placement. Create plant palettes and other visual design materials appropriate for internal review, client presentation, estimating, and installation. Select plant material appropriate for site conditions, design intent, mature size, maintenance requirements, water needs, and Northern California growing conditions. Source plant materials through approved Company vendors and confirm availability, including seasonal and inventory limitations, before finalizing plant selections for planting plans. Provide planting area takeoffs, quantities, specified sizes, and other necessary design information to the Estimating Department for pricing and proposal development. Recommend appropriate substitutions or alternative plant material when existing plants are failing, unavailable, or no longer appropriate for the site. Preserve and complement the existing design character of established properties when developing enhancement or renovation concepts. Develop cohesive design concepts for smaller-scale projects where an existing landscape framework is limited or does not exist. Consider installation feasibility, irrigation requirements, maintenance needs, material selection, and long-term landscape performance throughout the design process. Communicate directly with clients as necessary regarding design concepts, preferences, revisions, and selections, and manage the design phase through client approval in coordination with the appropriate Account Management and Operations personnel. Coordinate and facilitate communications with applicable city, county, water district, and other regulatory agencies regarding required plant palette review and approval processes, and ensure plant selections comply with applicable agency requirements, including water-use, plant eligibility, and other plant selection standards. Be present on-site as required during plant installation to perform plant layout and provide design-related direction to installation crews. Travel throughout Marin, Napa, and Sonoma counties as necessary for site evaluations, client meetings, field measurements, design development, and installation support. Schedule and conduct on-site client meetings as necessary to understand the client's vision, preferences, priorities, and intended use of the outdoor space. Maintain an accurate and current schedule in the assigned Landscape Designer calendar in Asana, including client meetings, site visits, design deadlines, and other scheduled responsibilities.

POSITION SCOPE

This is a part-time landscape design and drafting position supporting a combination of landscape enhancements, renovations, plan revisions, and select small-scale new landscape designs. The majority of projects will involve existing landscapes or defined areas within established properties. However, the Landscape Designer may also be responsible for developing complete design concepts for smaller-scale projects such as yard renovations, garden areas, and other contained residential or commercial landscape spaces, upon request. The position is not intended to serve as the company's landscape architect or as the primary designer for large-scale new construction projects. Client account management, project scheduling, crew management, and overall project management remain with the appropriate Account Management and Operations personnel. All designs, drawings, revisions, plans, specifications, and other work product created within the scope of employment for Sol Landscapes, Inc. are Company work product and remain the property of Sol Landscapes, Inc. Design work is subject to review and oversight by Senior Management. This is an hourly, nonexempt position. The Landscape Designer is required to accurately record all working time through the Company's designated timekeeping system and will be compensated for all hours worked in accordance with applicable wage-and-hour requirements. Working hours may not exceed eight (8) hours in any workday. Any change to the employee's assigned or scheduled working hours requires advance approval from management.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Landscape design experience, particularly enhancement/renovation of established landscapes.
• Strong working knowledge of plant material appropriate for Northern California landscapes, including plant characteristics, growing requirements, seasonal performance, and appropriate site applications.
• Proficiency in CAD software; experience with F/X CAD preferred.
• Ability to produce planting plans, layouts, takeoffs, palettes, and presentation materials.
• Ability to perform site measurements and translate existing conditions into workable designs.
• Strong professional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with clients regarding design concepts, selections, and revisions.
• Ability to work independently while coordinating with Account Management, Estimating, Project Management, and field personnel.
• This position requires regular travel to off-site locations for client meetings, site visits, plan and material pickup, installation support, and other position-related responsibilities. The employee must maintain a valid driver's license and a clean, insurable driving record at all times as a condition of the position.
