This position will operate excavation and construction equipment while supporting trenching, potholing, backfilling, conduit placement, fiber installation, and restoration. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience operating equipment around existing underground utilities and understands the additional care required when performing excavation work in active utility environments. Key Responsibilities Safely operate mini excavators and other underground construction equipment Perform trenching and excavation for underground fiber and conduit placement Perform or support potholing/daylighting of existing utilities Excavate around existing telecommunications, electrical, gas, water, and other underground infrastructure Perform backfilling, grading, compaction, and site restoration Excavate for and install hand holes, vaults, conduit, and related OSP infrastructure Support fiber pulling and fiber blowing operations Understand construction prints, fiber maps, routes, and basic fiber counts Coordinate with laborers and ground crews during excavation Maintain appropriate trench depths and construction specifications Support roadway and sidewalk removal Assist with roadway, sidewalk, concrete, asphalt, and landscape restoration Perform daily equipment inspections and identify maintenance or safety concerns Maintain safe clearances from existing underground utilities Follow traffic-control requirements when operating near roadways Follow trench, excavation, and confined-space safety requirements Equipment Experience Experience operating some or all of the following is preferred: Mini excavators Excavators Trenchers Skid steers Backhoes Compact track loaders Compaction equipment Vacuum excavation/potholing equipment Qualifications Previous equipment operation experience in OSP fiber, underground utilities, telecommunications, or civil construction Strong mini-excavator experience Experience trenching and excavating around existing utilities Knowledge of potholing/daylighting practices Understanding of backfilling, compaction, and restoration Familiarity with hand holes, conduit systems, and underground fiber infrastructure Understanding of fiber maps and construction prints preferred Experience supporting fiber pulling/blowing preferred Knowledge of OSHA excavation and trench-safety requirements Competent Person training/experience strongly preferred Confined-space and traffic-control experience preferred CDL is a plus Broadstaff, LLC., provides equal employment opportunities to all qualified individuals without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, pregnancy, age, national origin, physical or mental disability, military or veteran status, genetic information, or any other protected classification protected by federal, state or local laws.
