Scope:

Under direct supervision, the Well & Pump 3rd Man provides entry-level field support to the rig operator and 2nd Man during pump operations, drilling, well rehabilitation, and abandonment activities. This position assists with preparing tools, materials, equipment, and the worksite while learning proper procedures, safety requirements, and Smyth Industries' expectations for quality and operational excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

Rig Operations:

Assist the rig operator and 2nd Man with daily rig operations | Stage, load, unload, and organize tools, materials, and equipment | Support drilling, pump, rehabilitation, and abandonment tasks as directed | Help secure well openings and work areas in accordance with safety standards.

Crew & Site Support:

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe worksite | Prepare and retrieve tools and materials needed by the crew | Follow instructions from the rig operator and 2nd Man | Comply with PPE, housekeeping, and site safety requirements at all times.

Equipment Maintenance:

Assist with daily inspections and basic maintenance of rigs, pumps, vehicles, tools, and related equipment | Clean, organize, and store tools and materials properly | Report damaged, missing, or unsafe equipment to the rig operator or 2nd Man | Support preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.

Field Performance:

Perform assigned field tasks safely and efficiently | Assist with material handling, setup, teardown, and site cleanup | Observe ground conditions and notify the rig operator or 2nd Man of potential hazards | Support proper handling and disposal of waste materials as directed.

Safety & Compliance:

Follow Smyth Industries' safety policies and procedures | Use required PPE and safe work practices | Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, near misses, or equipment concerns | Assist with emergency response or equipment issues as directed.

Reporting & Communication:

Communicate job progress, equipment needs, safety concerns, and delays to the rig operator or 2nd Man | Assist with basic job documentation, time reporting, and daily cleanup records as assigned | Ask questions and confirm instructions when tasks are unclear.

Training & Development:

Learn drilling and pump operations, equipment use, maintenance practices, and safety procedures through hands-on instruction | Demonstrate willingness to learn, follow direction, and build skills toward advancement within the Well and Pump Division.

Minimum Qualifications :

0-2 years of related field, construction, drilling, pump, or labor experience preferred | Ability to follow instructions and work safely as part of a crew | Basic understanding of tools, equipment, and jobsite safety practices | Willingness to learn drilling and pump operations | Valid driver's license, pass MVR and drug screening | lift/carry 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications :

Previous water well, pump, construction, or equipment maintenance experience | Forklift certification | Confined space awareness or certification | CDL permit or interest in obtaining CDL | Bilingual (English/Spanish).
